Classic engines and Liberation Day memories in the Pescara hills
The Nocciano Vintage Car and Motorcycle Rally has become a staple of the Abruzzo motoring calendar. Every year on April 25th, coinciding with Liberation Day, the small village of Nocciano, in the Province of Pescara, welcomes dozens of historic vehicles: from the iconic FIAT 500 to 1960s and 70s spiders, and from motorcycles that defined generations to rare FIAT X1/9s. Now in its 18th edition in 2026, the rally is organized by the Club 500 Story Nocciano with the patronage of the Municipality of Nocciano, in collaboration with the Club FIAT X1/9 Pescara and the FMI Abruzzo Regional Committee.
The choice of April 25th is no coincidence: the event weaves mechanical passion with the civic significance of the holiday. The morning features a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial, attended by the Alpini Group—a moment of reflection that precedes the festivities on wheels. It is this dual focus—the memory of the Resistance and the joy of the rally—that makes the event so deeply felt by the Nocciano community.
After registration and the static display of vehicles, the procession of vintage cars and motorcycles sets off for a scenic tour through the Val Pescara hills, with social stops in neighboring villages. In past editions, the route has visited towns such as Catignano, Civitaquana, and Villa Oliveti, concluding with an aperitif and a social lunch. It is a rare opportunity to see vehicles that usually stay in collectors' garages out on the road.
Alongside the historic vehicles, the Nocciano rally reserves plenty of space for the tuning world: throughout the day, until late afternoon, there is a showcase of modified and customized cars, a favorite among younger enthusiasts. The day concludes with awards in the late afternoon, celebrating the most beautiful, well-maintained, and original vehicles before the event wraps up in the evening.
The rally is also a perfect excuse to explore Nocciano, dominated by its medieval castle, and the hilly landscape of the Province of Pescara, in Abruzzo. The combination of vintage engines, popular tradition, and rural scenery makes this a genuine, family-friendly event, far from the major circuits but capable of attracting enthusiasts from across the region.
