The artistic flower carpet festival in the historic center of Nicosia, in the Nebrodi mountains of Enna
Nicosia in Fiore is a celebration of the ephemeral art of the infiorata, which brings the ancient heart of Nicosia to life every June. Nestled on the slopes of the Nebrodi mountains in the heart of Sicily, this town in the Province of Enna offers a stunning backdrop for the event. Along the charming Via G.B. Li Volsi in the historic center, local masters create a long mosaic of colors: true "paintings" laid out on the ground using flower petals, leaves, coffee, vegetables, and natural earth, each year inspired by a specific theme.
The event is organized by the Nicosia section of FIDAPA (Italian Federation of Women in Arts, Professions, and Business) with the patronage of the Municipality of Nicosia. Having surpassed thirty editions, it has become a cornerstone of the cultural summer in the Enna region. More than just a decoration, the festival is a collective effort: associations, schools, families, and volunteers work together to compose, petal by petal, the masterpieces that cover the historic cobblestones.
A rich program of side events revolves around the floral mosaics. The city's most beautiful historic palaces host exhibitions of painting, photography, and craftsmanship. There are also conferences, musical performances, and guided tours to discover the historic center of Nicosia, with its churches, noble palaces, diocesan museum, and ancient alleys. Visitors can also savor traditional products and local gastronomic specialties.
Visiting Nicosia in Fiore is also a perfect opportunity to discover one of the most history-rich villages in inland Sicily. Nicosia preserves a remarkable architectural heritage, including the Cathedral of San Nicola, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, and numerous noble palaces that frame the floral works. The festival thus becomes the common thread for a day that combines art, popular tradition, and slow tourism in the Enna territory.
The 2026 edition of Nicosia in Fiore confirmed the event's well-established formula: during the weekend of mid-June, Via G.B. Li Volsi was covered in floral paintings created by local artists, inspired by the year's theme. Surrounding the flower festival, decorated with petals, leaves, coffee, vegetables, and natural earth, were the usual side events: art and craft exhibitions in the historic palaces of the center, guided tours, and tasting sessions of typical products from the Enna region. The free event was organized by the Nicosia section of FIDAPA with the patronage of the Municipality.
Artistic flower festival along Via G.B. Li Volsi (afternoon, approximately 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM), featuring themed floral mosaics created by local artists. Painting, photography, and craft exhibitions in the historic palaces of the center, guided tours of the village's churches and monuments, and tastings of local products.
Nicosia is located in central-northern Sicily, in the Province of Enna. By car, it is accessible via the SS117 and SS120; the nearest motorway exit is on the A19 Palermo-Catania (exits towards the Enna area), then following the internal state roads. The reference railway station for long-distance travel is Enna or Catania, from where you can continue by bus or car.
The flower festival takes place along Via G.B. Li Volsi, usually in the afternoon (approximately 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM). Admission is free. For the updated program, times, and the theme of the edition, it is advisable to check the social media channels of FIDAPA Nicosia and the Municipality.
We recommend wearing comfortable shoes to explore the hilly historic center and combining your visit to the flower festival with a tour of the city's churches and palaces.
