The theatre, music, and contemporary arts review of the Petrella Theatre in Longiano
Nessun Dorma! is the theatre and contemporary arts review of the Petrella Theatre in Longiano, the small and precious Italian-style theatre that dominates the hilltop village in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. The title is an explicit invitation: stay awake, be present with awareness and activism. The review weaves together theatre and literature, music, visual arts, dance, and cinematic language in a journey that spans the winter, from January to March.
Longiano is one of the most evocative villages in Romagna, gathered around the Malatesta Castle. The Petrella Theatre, managed by Cronopios in collaboration with the Municipality of Longiano and ATER Fondazione, is the beating heart of the town's cultural life: an intimate and refined hall where the proximity between stage and audience creates a different experience from that of large venues. The review is part of the Biglia - palchi in pista project and complements the season's other offerings, such as the family review Sciroppo di Teatro.
The programme for Nessun Dorma! is intentionally limited but curated in the smallest details: a few events, chosen for their strength and their ability to speak to the present. It ranges from music that dialogues with words and images to civil theatre that tells the stories of the marginalized and the peripheries, from generational monologues to the live soundtracking of a masterpiece of expressionist cinema. A proposal that doesn't seek big names at all costs, but artists capable of leaving a mark.
The visual identity of the review was born from a collaboration with the Tito Balestra Foundation, based in Longiano: the poster reworks the artwork Cattedrale (2018) by artist Federico Guerri, testifying to the deep link between the theatre and the artistic heritage of the territory.
The inaugural edition of the Nessun Dorma! review took place at the Petrella Theatre in Longiano from January 24 to March 6, 2026, with four shows that intertwined music, theatre, and cinema. The review opened with the multidisciplinary project by Rodrigo D'Erasmo and Roberto Angelini and closed with the live soundtracking of a silent film classic, featuring the civil theatre of Ascanio Celestini and the generational monologue by Niccolò Fettarappa.
The Dominion of Light with Rodrigo D'Erasmo and Roberto Angelini — a multidisciplinary project combining music, words, and images, with contributions from authors such as Vasco Brondi, Chiara Gamberale, Filippo Timi, and Emanuele Trevi.
Poveri cristi with Ascanio Celestini — a handful of stories and characters from the peripheries where the marginalized live.
La sparanoia by and with Niccolò Fettarappa and Lorenzo Guerrieri — a scathing portrait of an oppressed, exploited, and domesticated generation.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari — live soundtracking of the silent film classic with Stefano Pilia (guitarist of Afterhours) and the Collettivo Soundtracks 2024, on the theme of power control.
