About Nepi Cooked Salami Festival

Every May, Nepi, a village in the Viterbo Tuscia region, dedicates a long weekend to its two iconic products: the De.Co. cooked salami and the Pecorino Romano PDO from Lazio. In Piazza del Comune, the Pro Loco stands serve vignarola, bruschetta with pecorino cream and fava beans, the famous nepiciana, and fried pizza, while brass bands, folk music groups, children's workshops, and archery competitions bring the historic center to life from morning until night.

A festival that tells the story of Tuscia through its food

The Nepi Pecorino and Cooked Salami Festival is one of the most anticipated food and wine events of spring in the province of Viterbo. Organized by the Pro Loco Nepi with the support of the Municipality of Nepi, the event transforms Piazza del Comune and the streets of the historic center every year into a large tasting area dedicated to the typical products of the Faliscan territory and the entire Tuscia region in northern Lazio.

The two protagonists: cooked salami and Pecorino Romano

The Nepi cooked salami, recognized with the De.Co. municipal designation, is a sausage that is first smoked and then boiled, offering an intense aroma and a soft texture: a product traditionally eaten warm, sliced thick, and accompanied by homemade bread. Alongside it is the Pecorino Romano PDO from Lazio, a cheese with a long pastoral tradition that finds some of its most recognizable expressions in the Tuscia region. The entire gastronomic offering of the festival revolves around these two pillars.

What to eat

  • Vignarola: a seasonal dish made with fava beans, potatoes, onions, and artichokes
  • Bruschetta with pecorino cream, fava beans, and mint
  • Nepiciana: mezze maniche pasta in a matriciana sauce enriched with scapicollata and local pecorino
  • Scapicollata and coppa, platters of local cured meats and cheeses
  • Fried pizza and the Gourmet Tascapane, a more recent addition by the Pro Loco
  • Draft beer and wines from the Colli Etruschi

More than just food: music, tradition, and sport

The program goes beyond the food stands. Each edition features an opening ceremony with the E. Gai Brass Band and city officials, performances by the Nepi Band with majorettes, evenings of folk music with pizzica and tarantella, book presentations, art exhibitions, and reading workshops for children. At the Forte dei Borgia, a historical archery competition takes place, attracting archers from various regions. A craft and hobby market completes the route through the village streets.

Nepi, a village to discover

The festival is also an opportunity to visit Nepi, a town of ancient Faliscan origin located just over forty kilometers from Rome. The Forte dei Borgia, the Cathedral, the imposing 17th-century aqueduct, the Catacombs of Santa Savinilla, and the mineral water springs that made the town famous are all within walking distance of the center. Those arriving for lunch can easily spend the afternoon strolling through the walls and ravines that surround the town.

An event that has grown over the years

Born as a local village feast, the festival has surpassed twenty editions and is now a reference point for the spring festival calendar in Lazio. In 2025, the format was even doubled over two weekends, with a "Classic" section dedicated to tradition and a "Young" section designed for a younger audience, featuring music, sports, and beer. Admission to the event area is free: you only pay for what you consume at the food stands, with the affordable prices typical of festivals organized by the Pro Loco.

Nepi Cooked Salami Festival — edition 2026

The 22nd edition of the Nepi Pecorino and Cooked Salami Festival took place from May 8 to 10, 2026, in Piazza del Comune, featuring three days of tastings, live music, children's workshops, and a historical archery competition at the Forte dei Borgia.

22nd edition, May 8-10, 2026

Three days in Piazza del Comune for the twenty-second edition of the Nepi festival, with food and craft stands open from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. The program alternated between social moments, cultural events, and family activities, confirming the format focused on a single weekend after the two-weekend experiment of 2025.
