The Tuscia village transforms into a festive wonderland filled with lights, markets, and magic

Every year, in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the historic center of Ronciglione — an elegant village in the Viterbo Tuscia area, in the province of Viterbo — transforms into a true festive village. "Sogno di Natale" is the Christmas event promoted by the Municipality of Ronciglione that, for three consecutive weekends, fills the main streets and squares of the town with lights, colors, and atmosphere, nestled in northern Lazio at the foot of the Cimini Mountains and just a stone's throw from Lake Vico.
The heart of the event lies in the giant illuminations that light up Viale Garibaldi and the medieval fabric of the village, alongside a route of attractions designed especially for families. Among the most popular stops are Santa's Office, the charming Grinch's Lair, the Snow Globe in Piazza della Nave, the virtual sleigh on Corso Umberto I, and the many selfie spots scattered throughout the town center.
During the opening weekends, the village comes alive with street performances, dance shows, sightseeing tours, and workshops for children, some featuring animals. The festive tradition of Ronciglione is completed by the famous Living Nativity, set up between Christmas and Epiphany, which recreates the Nativity among the evocative corners of the village and its Sanctuary.
Born in 2018 as a natural evolution of the town's Christmas initiatives, the event is completely free to enter and takes place on the weekends of December, opening on Saturday afternoons and from the morning on holidays. "Sogno di Natale" is now one of the most anticipated events in the winter calendar of Ronciglione and the entire Tuscia region, attracting visitors from neighboring towns and all over Lazio.
Experiencing "Sogno di Natale" is also the perfect opportunity to discover Ronciglione, a village known for its historic Carnival, medieval center, and proximity to Lake Vico and the Nature Reserve. Strolling among the lights, markets, and decorated alleys offers the authentic atmosphere of an Italian Christmas, the kind found in small villages where the community gathers to celebrate together.
The return of "Sogno di Natale" in Ronciglione is expected in December 2026, following a consolidated tradition that transforms the Tuscia village into a festive wonderland every year. The official dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released; they will be communicated by the Municipality of Ronciglione in the weeks leading up to the event. As in past editions, Christmas markets, giant illuminations, Santa's Office, the Grinch's Lair, street performances, and children's workshops are expected, with free admission.
Ronciglione is located in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio. By car, it can be reached via the Via Cassia (SS2) or the Cassia bis; the journey from Rome takes about an hour. The Ronciglione train station is served by the Roma Nord line (Rome-Viterbo).
Open on Saturdays from 2:00 PM and on holidays from 10:00 AM, during the weekends of December.
Free. The attractions and markets are spread along Viale Garibaldi, Via Roma, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, Via Solferino, and Corso Umberto I.
Wear warm and comfortable clothing for walking around the village. We also recommend visiting the Living Nativity set up between Christmas and Epiphany.
