In Savigno, the first festival dedicated to truffle hunters and the protection of truffle grounds
In the Municipality of Valsamoggia, in the Province of Bologna, the village of Savigno has always been one of the cornerstones of truffle culture in Emilia-Romagna. Here, on June 13 and 14, 2026, the first edition of the National Truffle Hunter Day – Festival of Associations comes to life, an event organized by Il Tartufo APS under the aegis of FNATI (National Federation of Italian Truffle Associations). The event takes place in Piazza XV Agosto and the nearby natural truffle ground "Le Vigne".
The stated objective is ambitious: to promote the establishment of a true National Truffle Hunter Day, to give recognition to those who preserve a tradition deeply linked to the territory and the environment. The search and extraction of truffles in Italy has indeed been inscribed since 2021 on the list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage, and the Savigno festival aims to be one of its most convinced voices.
The event celebrates the four varieties that characterize Italian woods: the prized White Truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico), the Black Truffle (Tuber melanosporum), the Summer Truffle (Tuber aestivum), and the Bianchetto or Borchii truffle (Tuber borchii). The Summer Truffle, in season in June, is the common thread for the tastings.
The program alternates institutional moments and festive occasions. Saturday is dedicated to reflection, with a round table on the protection of truffles and truffle grounds and the drafting of a document of intent; Sunday is the most anticipated day for enthusiasts, with the truffle dog search competition, the true popular heart of the event. There are also guided tours in the woods, evening "Forest Stories," and the Truffle Hunter's Lunch, a convivial meal rooted in the cuisine of the Bolognese Apennines.
Awarded the title of "Truffle City," the village of Valsamoggia lives this vocation all year round, from the famous autumn festival Tartófla to this new early summer festival. Participating means coming into direct contact with truffle hunters, their dogs, and an ancient knowledge that continues to be passed down from generation to generation.
The inaugural 2026 edition takes place over two days packed with events, halfway between the commitment to truffle protection and popular celebration. Saturday is a time for discussion, with institutional meetings, a guided tour of the "Le Vigne" natural truffle ground, and a round table dedicated to the protection of truffle grounds, culminating in the drafting of a document of intent and the official request to establish the National Truffle Hunter Day. Sunday is dedicated to competition and conviviality, with the truffle dog search competition that attracts enthusiasts from all over the region.
Piazza XV Agosto, Savigno, a hamlet of the Municipality of Valsamoggia (BO), Emilia-Romagna. Activities in the woods take place at the natural truffle ground "Le Vigne," a few kilometers from the center.
