Traditional Chianina duck and the grand Spring Fair in Montepulciano Stazione
In the village of Montepulciano Stazione, at the foot of the famous Vino Nobile city in the province of Siena, spring brings one of the most beloved events in the Sienese Valdichiana: the Nana Festival, held alongside the Spring Feast and the Trade Fair. Now in its 27th year, the event enlivens the I Tigli Sports Center on Via Roma for five days, turning it into the beating heart of local life.
The festival's name reveals its star: nana is the term used in the local dialect and throughout Tuscany for duck. The food stalls serve dishes that highlight this traditional peasant ingredient, alongside typical Chianina cuisine recipes and the ever-popular wood-fired pizza. It is genuine, generous, and popular cooking that tells the story of the gastronomic identity of this corner of Tuscany, where the Valdichiana meets the hills of Vino Nobile.
Dinners are held every evening starting at 7:30 PM in a friendly, convivial atmosphere. Each night features live music and dancing, with a rich schedule of orchestras and artists keeping guests of all ages entertained until late. The festival offers free admission and is the perfect opportunity to savor local flavors in good company.
The highlight of the event is Sunday, when Montepulciano Stazione hosts the grand Spring Trade Fair. Throughout the day, the village streets are filled with stalls selling food, clothing, hobbies, and handicrafts, drawing visitors from across the Valdichiana. At noon, the Fair Lunch takes place, a moment of conviviality that kicks off the day's festivities.
Organized by ASD La Chianina and the Unione Polisportiva Poliziana, with the patronage of the Municipality of Montepulciano, the Nana Festival is much more than a food event: it is a celebration of identity that strengthens the community spirit and welcomes visitors with the typical hospitality of the Tuscan countryside. It is a chance to discover the Sienese Valdichiana away from the main tourist circuits, amidst good food, music, and folk traditions.
The 2026 edition, the 27th, was held from Friday, May 29 to Tuesday, June 2 at the I Tigli Sports Center in Montepulciano Stazione. Every evening, starting at 7:30 PM, the food stand offered dishes based on nana (duck), traditional Chianina recipes, and wood-fired pizza. Dancing evenings marked the entire event.
The musical calendar featured: Giorgio Franceschi (May 29), Simona Fabrizi (May 30), Irene Grillo (May 31), Musica Solare (June 1), and Fuoco Puro (June 2). On Sunday, May 31, the village hosted the Trade Fair all day long, with the Fair Lunch starting at 12:00 PM.
