Musik Meran – Concert Season

A musical tradition in the heart of Merano

Musik Meran is the classical music concert season organized in Merano/Meran, an elegant spa town in the province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige. For over thirty years, the association has offered a program that accompanies the public from autumn to spring, bringing some of the most acclaimed orchestras, quartets, and soloists on the international scene to the city. The artistic direction is led by Josef Lanz, while the presidency is held by Nikolaus Kirchmaier.

Concert venues

The season is distinguished by its choice of charming venues, all located in the center of Merano:

• Kursaal — a stunning Art Nouveau building overlooking the Passirio river, the setting for major symphonic concerts;
• Teatro Puccini — the historic city theater, ideal for chamber music and solo recitals;
• Cathedral of San Nicolò — the main church of Merano, which hosts sacred and choral music concerts.

A program with international reach

Each season creates a dialogue between the great classical and romantic repertoire and the most refined chamber music. Regular guest ensembles include the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, prominent choirs and chamber groups, as well as leading soloists such as violinist Benjamin Schmid. The traditional New Year's Day Concert on January 1st at the Kursaal is one of the most anticipated events of the Merano musical year.

Merano, with its mild climate, walks along the Passirio river, and Central European atmosphere that blends Italian and South Tyrolean culture, offers a unique backdrop for the season.
