The Messapian city in music on the summer solstice
Every year, on the day of the summer solstice, Manduria joins the Music Festival, the grand popular celebration that fills cities across Europe with music on June 21st. In the historic center of the town, located in the province of Taranto, the event has become a staple: now in its 32nd national edition, it brings together musicians, schools, choirs, and orchestral groups for an evening that is entirely free and open to everyone.
The heart of the festival is diffused music: multiple stages and performance spots are scattered throughout the town's iconic landmarks, allowing the public to stroll from one performance to the next. The route includes the Chiostro degli Agostiniani, Largo Santa Maria, Largo San Leonardo, Piazza Garibaldi, the Palazzo delle Servite, and Piazza San Francesco, while the streets of the center are adorned with music-themed decorations. From young students of the «Città de Manduria» Municipal School of Music to more established ensembles, the evening alternates between different genres and styles, ranging from classical music to pop, and from singer-songwriter tracks to more modern sounds.
More than just a concert, the Manduria Music Festival is a community event: it combines art with inclusion and showcases young talents from the Apulian region. The artistic direction, entrusted to local professionals, creates a central theme each year that ties the various performances together and gives the edition its unique identity. The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Manduria and involves cultural associations, dance schools, and musical groups from the Ionian-Salento area.
Hosting the festival in Manduria means immersing yourself in one of the most characteristic towns of southern Puglia. Famous worldwide for its Primitivo di Manduria wine, the city preserves a rich historical heritage, from the Messapian walls to the Fonte Pliniano, which provides a stunning backdrop for summer evenings. Participating in the Music Festival is also a perfect opportunity to discover the illuminated historic center, among baroque churches, noble palaces, and alleys filled with music until late at night.
Part of the national Music Festival circuit, the Manduria edition shares the original spirit of the event with hundreds of other Italian cities: making music accessible to everyone, in public spaces, and free of charge. A simple and engaging way to welcome summer in the land of Primitivo.
The 32nd national edition of the Manduria Music Festival took place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with the theme 'The Voice of Places' and the artistic direction of Maestro Raffaele Vaccaro. The evening began at 7:30 PM at the Chiostro degli Agostiniani with performances by students from the «Città di Manduria» Municipal School of Music, before spreading out into a musical journey along Largo Santa Maria, Largo San Leonardo, Piazza Garibaldi, the Palazzo delle Servite, and Piazza San Francesco.
The highlight of the edition was the «Disney Opera» show, an immersive symphonic journey performed by the Tebaide Orchestra (35 professionals and 6 soloists) featuring great themes from The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and Frozen: an absolute premiere for the provinces of Taranto and Brindisi. The festival concluded with a concert by the band Liga 2.0. Free entry.
