The European Music Festival in the heart of the Castelli Romani
The Music Festival is the event through which Albano Laziale joins the European Music Festival, the major celebration born in France in 1982 and held annually on June 21st, the summer solstice, in hundreds of cities across the continent. Promoted by the Municipality of Albano Laziale through the Department of Cultural Policies, the festival brings live music for free to the heart of the city, amidst the squares and historic spaces of the Castelli Romani center, in the Lazio region.
Under the artistic direction of Maestro Alberto Annarilli, who has long been dedicated to enhancing the local musical culture, the program spans diverse genres and eras. The evenings range from classical and baroque music to jazz, and from choral performances to folk sounds, with a special focus on the quality of the performers and an educational approach designed to engage even the less experienced audience.
The heart of the event is the «Anna Di Baldo» Civic Music Center on Via Anfiteatro Romano, complemented by charming locations such as the Noble Hall of Palazzo Savelli and the small square of the Santuario di Santa Maria della Rotonda, which provide the backdrop for the evening concerts.
All events are free to attend: the Albano Laziale Music Festival is not just for a select few, but an invitation to the entire community, in line with the original spirit of the European event. Within the calendar of the Municipality of Albano Laziale, in the province of Rome, the event represents one of the most anticipated musical moments of early summer, capable of uniting residents, enthusiasts, and visitors of the Castelli Romani through the universal language of music.
For the 2026 edition, the Albano Laziale Music Festival chose to celebrate June 21st, the day of the European Music Festival, with a refined chamber music evening at the «Anna Di Baldo» Civic Music Center. The concert «An Evening with Esterházy» paid tribute to Franz Joseph Haydn, one of the fathers of the symphony and chamber music, retracing the famous string trios composed during his long service at the court of the Esterházy princes. On stage were Laura Scipioni on violin, Emanuele Marcante on viola, and Andrea Lattarulo on cello, under the artistic direction of Maestro Alberto Annarilli. Admission was free.
Albano Laziale is located in the Castelli Romani, about 25 km southeast of Rome. It is accessible by regional train (Albano Laziale station) with connections from Roma Termini. By car, it can be reached via the Via Appia (SS7) or from the Grande Raccordo Anulare by following the signs for Castelli Romani.
All concerts are free until capacity is reached. For information: Department of Cultural Policies of the Municipality of Albano Laziale, [email protected], tel. +39 06 93295461.
