Free music, comedy, and archaeology in the heart of Municipality VII
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Recovery Festival is one of the most original initiatives in the Roma Capitale winter calendar: a widespread festival that brings culture, music, and entertainment to neighborhood squares, far from the city center's usual circuits. In Municipality VII, the festival takes place in Piazza San Giovanni Bosco, the large space in front of the basilica in the Don Bosco district, just a stone's throw from Cinecittร and the Tuscolano area, transforming it for a few evenings into an open-air stage with free admission.
The formula that makes the Recovery Festival special is the meeting of outreach and live performance. Each evening opens with a session led by archaeologists and scholars, featuring screenings and stories dedicated to the major restoration projects funded by the PNRR Caput Mundi program: aqueducts, underground sites, monuments, and archaeological areas returned to the city. The cultural segment is followed by concerts and comedy shows, in a blend that brings the public closer to the Capital's heritage in a lighthearted and accessible way.
Designed for families and residents, the Recovery Festival at Piazza Don Bosco is an event deeply rooted in the fabric of Municipality VII, the most populous in Rome. Pop music and singer-songwriters, vocal harmonies, satire and cabaret, dance orchestras: the program alternates different genres to appeal to a broad, intergenerational audience, in a Christmas spirit that enlivens the square during the December evenings.
The initiative is part of a larger project that touches various squares in Rome and the coast, from Ostia to the eastern suburban municipalities. Promoted by the Department for Major Events, Tourism, Sport and Fashion of Roma Capitale, in the Lazio Region, the Recovery Festival showcases a city that values its archaeological heritage and returns it to its citizens, bringing shows and culture directly to their doorstep.
The 2026 edition of the Recovery Festival at Piazza Don Bosco has not yet been officially announced. Based on previous editions, a new series of free evenings is expected during the Christmas period, featuring concerts, comedy shows, and sessions on restored archaeological heritage. The schedule and line-up will be published by Roma Capitale in the weeks leading up to the event. The dates indicated here are provisional and pending confirmation.
Piazza San Giovanni Bosco is located in the Don Bosco district, Municipality VII, and is served by Metro A (Subaugusta and Cinecittร stops, a short distance away) and several bus lines. By car, it can be reached via Via Tuscolana; during event days, public transport is recommended due to the difficulty of finding parking in the area.
Admission is free and no booking is required, subject to availability. Archaeological sessions begin in the late afternoon, followed in the early evening by concerts and shows. We recommend wearing clothing suitable for the winter weather, as these are outdoor events.
