About Murabilia

Every year in early September, the Renaissance Walls of Lucca transform into a vast hanging garden. Murabilia is one of Italy's most prestigious events dedicated to flowers, plants, and high-quality gardening. Over 200 exhibitors—mostly specialist nurseries—gather on the San Regolo and Libertà bastions and within the Botanical Garden, showcasing botanical rarities, new cultivars, and garden equipment. Three days of themed exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and international guests in the heart of Tuscany.

Murabilia: High-quality gardening on the Walls of Lucca

Murabilia is the premier gardening exhibition and market that brings the famous Renaissance Walls of Lucca to life every September. Established in 2001 and organized by Lucca Crea srl with the support of the Municipality of Lucca, it has become one of Italy's most important botanical and nursery events, attracting enthusiasts, collectors, and green professionals from across Europe.

A unique setting: The bastions and the Botanical Garden

The event unfolds along the 16th-century city walls, stretching from the San Regolo Bastion to the Libertà Bastion, and continues inside the historic Botanical Garden of Lucca, founded over two centuries ago. Strolling among the stalls surrounded by the monumental trees of the Walls, with the old town on one side and the Lucchese countryside on the other, is an essential part of the Murabilia experience.

What to expect

The absolute stars are the over 200 exhibitors, primarily specialist nurseries, offering an assortment hard to find elsewhere:

  • Rare plants, ancient varieties, and new cultivars;
  • Collections of flowering species, succulents, carnivorous plants, roses, hydrangeas, and climbers;
  • Tools, furniture, and garden accessories;
  • Books, botanical illustrations, and artisanal products related to gardening.

A program rich in horticultural culture

Beyond the market, Murabilia offers a packed calendar of conferences, themed exhibitions, book presentations, and workshops open to everyone, featuring Italian and international experts, botanists, and garden designers. Recent editions have focused on specific themes (such as climbing plants) accompanied by a symbolic plant and dedicated spaces like the 'Green Agora,' where talks and guided tours of the Botanical Garden take place.

Fun for the little ones

There is also a section dedicated to families, Young Gardening, featuring creative and playful activities designed to introduce children to nature, environmental awareness, and plant care.

Murabilia and the Lucchese September

The event is part of the Lucchese September calendar, the most vibrant time of the year for the Tuscan city, and represents one of the best opportunities to discover Lucca, its Walls, and its deep-rooted tradition tied to greenery and landscape. For gardening enthusiasts, it is an unmissable appointment in the panorama of the Tuscany Region and the entire country.

For this silver anniversary edition, over 200 exhibitors are expected, with rare plants, themed exhibitions, and workshops.
