Ideas that resonate: science, nature, and the future of the highlands on the Paganella Plateau
Mountain Future Stories is the travelling cultural festival promoted by Visit Paganella (APT Dolomiti Paganella) that brings the squares and cultural spaces of the Paganella Plateau to life every summer, in the province of Trento and the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Born from the evolution of the previous Mountain Future Festival, the event brings together physicists, mountaineers, researchers, writers, and artists to discuss ongoing changes and imagine the future of the highlands, blending science, nature, art, and sustainability.
The 2026 calendar runs from July to September and involves various municipalities on the plateau: Andalo, Fai della Paganella, Molveno, Spormaggiore and, for the first time, the Municipality of Cavedago. The Cavedago stop is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 5:30 PM in Piazza San Lorenzo, with the talk "Climbing to Survive. Mountain ecosystems put to the test by the climate crisis".
The guest speaker is Chiara Bettega, a researcher and ornithologist collaborating with the MUSE – Science Museum of Trento, who will guide the audience on a virtual ascent through various alpine ecosystems: from mixed forests to high-altitude meadows, up to glacial zones. A journey to understand how climate change is altering the distribution of mountain species and what survival strategies animals and high-altitude environments are adopting.
The guiding thread of Mountain Future Stories is captured in its motto: the mountain is not just our landscape, it is our tomorrow. With free admission, the meetings transform town squares into places of dialogue on contemporary issues such as climate change, biodiversity, and the relationship between humans, the environment, and the community.
Cavedago is one of the small municipalities of the Paganella Plateau, overlooking the Brenta Dolomites and Lake Molveno. The inclusion of the village in the Mountain Future Stories circuit testifies to the entire plateau's commitment to combining tourism development with the protection of natural resources, offering residents and visitors an opportunity for scientific and cultural exploration immersed in the Trentino alpine landscape.
