The Mountain Festival is the summer event that transforms the Pian delle Faggeta into a vibrant hub for outdoor activities every August. Located in Carpineto Romano, a town in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, it sits in the heart of the Lepini Mountains, one of the most picturesque natural areas in Lazio. The karst plateau, surrounded by a dense beech forest, offers a cool, shaded setting that becomes an ideal destination for families, athletes, and nature lovers during the hottest summer days.
The festival is promoted by the Ente Pallio della Carriera, the committee of historic districts that also manages the famous Palio della Carriera and the International Folklore Festival in Carpineto Romano. Under their direction, the Pian delle Faggeta comes alive with a schedule designed for all ages, weaving together popular tradition, scientific outreach, and recreational sports.
The weekend offers a rich array of events that, in recent editions, have included:
The Mountain Festival is much more than a typical summer fair: it is an invitation to rediscover the Lazio hinterland and the Apennine mountains away from the coastal crowds. The combination of sports, nature, and culture makes it perfect for groups of friends and families with children alike, while its proximity to Rome makes it an ideal getaway for a day trip. Between the scent of the beech trees, the starry sky of the Lepini Mountains, and the hospitality of the local community, the event captures the most authentic spirit of a summer in the mountains.
A village of ancient origins and the birthplace of Pope Leo XIII, Carpineto Romano boasts a historic center rich in churches, palaces, and scenic viewpoints. The municipal territory rises up to the woods and pastures of the Lepini Mountains, with the Pian delle Faggeta serving as a prime gateway to hiking trails and picnic areas. The Mountain Festival celebrates this unique character, highlighting the deep bond between the community and its landscape.
The Mountain Festival returns in the summer of 2026 to the Pian delle Faggeta in Carpineto Romano, in the Lepini Mountains. As per tradition, the weekend is expected to feature sports activities, live concerts, stargazing, and children's workshops amidst the greenery of the beech forest. Official dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released: please check the Ente Pallio della Carriera channels for updates.
Carpineto Romano can be reached by car via the Via Casilina (SS6) or the A1 motorway (Colleferro exit), then continuing toward the Lepini Mountains. The Pian delle Faggeta is located above the town along the road leading up the mountain; traveling by private car is recommended to reach the plateau.
The event takes place in August, usually over a weekend (Friday to Sunday). Please check the official organization's channels for the current year's dates.
Bring layered clothing and comfortable shoes, as evenings at high altitude can be cool. Catering areas and activities for children are available. For the updated program and contact information, please refer to the Ente Pallio della Carriera.
