Two days of flavors, music, and tradition in Piazza Kennedy, in the heart of the Agro Pontino
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Autumn Festival is the event with which Pontinia, in the heart of the Latina province, welcomes the colder season. Every year, on a weekend in November, Piazza Kennedy โ the grand rationalist square that serves as the city's civic center โ fills with stalls, lights, and seasonal scents. The event is organized by Pro Loco Pontinia, which has built this gathering since 2023 as a moment of connection between generations in a community born from the reclamation of the Pontine Marshes and still deeply tied to the land.
The heart of the event is gastronomic. The stalls set up in the square offer the symbols of the Italian autumn โ roasted chestnuts and new wine โ alongside a selection of hot dishes and street food prepared by local vendors, including freshly made pizza. In recent editions, the festival has also hosted the Slow Food Latina chapter, bringing the theme of local products and short supply chains to the square: an aspect that naturally aligns with the agricultural vocation of the Agro Pontino, a land of vegetables, buffalo dairy products, and vineyards.
Alongside the food stalls, the Autumn Festival offers live music and entertainment that keep the square lively until the evening. The tone is not that of a massive festival: it is a community celebration, featuring local bands and groups, dancing, and a crowd that moves seamlessly from an afternoon stroll to an open-air dinner. It is precisely this intimate scale that makes it enjoyable even for visitors from out of town.
The event pays great attention to children, with workshops, games, and entertainment spread across the two days. Local schools, starting with the "G. Verga" Comprehensive Institute, have frequently participated in activities promoted by the Pro Loco, a sign of the close bond between the festival and the city's educational fabric.
Founded in 1935, Pontinia is the third of the new cities of the Agro Pontino and preserves a rationalist urban layout of great interest, with its central square, the Littoria tower, and the Agro Pontino Museum, dedicated to the history of the reclamation. Those visiting the Autumn Festival can easily combine a walk in the center with an excursion to the Circeo National Park and Lake Fogliano, just a few kilometers away, or head toward the coast of Sabaudia and Terracina.
Pro Loco Pontinia has not yet published the official dates for the new Autumn Festival. The historical calendar of the event places it on a weekend in November, in Piazza Kennedy, with the established two-day format.
In previous editions, the festival featured food stalls with chestnuts, new wine, and local cuisine, live music in the square, and activities dedicated to children. It is reasonable to expect a similar setup, but the detailed program โ times, artists, and participating vendors โ will be communicated by the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.
By car: Take the Latina exit from the SS148 Pontina, then the SS7 Appia towards Pontinia (approx. 20 km from Latina, 80 km from Rome). By train: Latina Scalo station on the Rome-Naples line via Formia, then take the Cotral bus to Pontinia. Nearest airports: Rome Fiumicino and Rome Ciampino.
Piazza John Fitzgerald Kennedy, in the center of Pontinia. Free parking is available in the surrounding streets; on festival evenings, it is advisable to arrive early.
Access to the square and performances is free; tastings at the food stalls are paid for individually, with typical local festival pricing.
November in the Agro Pontino is mild but humid: a jacket and comfortable shoes are recommended. For accommodation, the widest range of options can be found in Latina, Sabaudia, and Terracina, all less than half an hour's drive away.
