A day at high altitude with the Pro Loco Flavon at the Rifugio Doss de la Quarta
The Mountain Festival is the most anticipated summer event organized by the Pro Loco Flavon, a volunteer association based in the municipality of Contà, in Val di Non, within the Autonomous Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Traditionally held on the second Sunday of July, the festival transforms the Rifugio Doss de la Quarta into a vibrant meeting point for the Flavon community and the many hikers who choose to spend a day in the mountains.
The program begins in the village with a mountain walk that leads participants to the refuge, situated at an altitude of 1,653 meters in the Campa sub-group, inside the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. The trail, perfect for those who enjoy walking through forests and pastures, offers a chance to discover an authentic corner of the Brenta Dolomites, far from the more crowded spots of Val di Non.
Once at the destination, the day continues with the most convivial moment: a traditional polenta lunch prepared by the Pro Loco volunteers, followed by an afternoon of music and singing. It is a genuine expression of Trentino's folk traditions, where mountain culture, hospitality, and local cuisine blend together in a single day outdoors.
The Flavon Mountain Festival is part of the National Pro Loco Day, an initiative promoted by UNPLI (National Union of Pro Loco of Italy). Every year, on the weekend of the second Sunday of July, this event connects local associations across Italy to showcase the vital work of volunteers in their communities. In Trentino, the initiative involves around 240 Pro Loco and twenty thousand volunteers, coordinated by the Trentino Pro Loco Federation.
With its mix of hiking, good food, and music, the Mountain Festival is designed for families, walkers, and mountain enthusiasts alike. It is a simple and authentic way to experience summer at high altitude in the municipality of Contà and to support the activities of the Pro Loco Flavon, the guardians of tradition in this corner of Val di Non.
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the Pro Loco Flavon organizes the Mountain Festival at the Rifugio Doss de la Quarta, in the municipality of Contà (Val di Non). The day features a walk starting from the village up to the refuge at 1,653 meters, followed by a traditional polenta lunch and music in the afternoon.
The 2026 edition is part of the 9th National Pro Loco Day, promoted by UNPLI and coordinated in the region by the Trentino Pro Loco Federation, which celebrates the work of the approximately twenty thousand Trentino volunteers over the weekend.
Flavon is a hamlet of the municipality of Contà, in Val di Non (Trentino). It can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (exit San Michele all'Adige-Mezzocorona), then following signs for Val di Non. The Rifugio Doss de la Quarta is located at an altitude of 1,653 m and is reached via the organized walk starting from the village.
We recommend wearing hiking boots or trekking shoes, dressing in layers, and bringing water. The festival takes place outdoors and is held in good weather. For schedules, registration for the walk, and details on the lunch, it is advisable to contact the Pro Loco Flavon or check the calendar of the Trentino Pro Loco Federation (unplitrentino.it).
