About Mountain Christmas

Every year, from early December until Epiphany, the alpine village of Brentonico transforms for its Mountain Christmas: Via Roma lights up with illuminated pines, wooden stalls featuring local food and wine, educational games, and wooden benches. With performances, family workshops, live music, concerts in the crypt, snowshoeing on Monte Baldo, and the evocative Living Nativity on Christmas Eve, the event brings the town and its hamlets to life throughout the holidays in an authentic, community-focused alpine atmosphere.

Mountain Christmas in Brentonico

In the heart of the Brentonico Plateau, at the foot of Monte Baldo, the Municipality of Brentonico (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige) celebrates its Mountain Christmas every year—a holiday market that accompanies the community and visitors from early December until Epiphany. The event is part of the broader Vallagarina Christmas program, promoted by the Rovereto and Vallagarina Tourist Board.

An alpine village that lights up

Throughout the holiday season, Via Roma in the historic center is dressed for the occasion: illuminated pines and trees, large wooden educational games, tables and benches, and characteristic wooden stalls lining the street. Here, local vendors and associations offer regional food and wine specialties, from traditional canederli to desserts and dinner options, in the spirit of sharing typical of small mountain villages.

The holiday program

The calendar unfolds throughout the Christmas period with numerous initiatives:

  • Tree lighting on Via Roma in early December, featuring the Coro Soldanella and local primary schools;
  • Kitchens and food stalls run by local associations;
  • Christmas workshops for children and families (candles, decorations, magic lanterns);
  • Live music, choral concerts, and "Music in the Crypt" events;
  • Guided snowshoeing and moonlight excursions on Monte Baldo, with dinner in a mountain hut;
  • Visits to the Mulino Zeni on weekends, by reservation;
  • Nativity scenes set up in the hamlets of Cazzano, Cornè, and Prada.

The Christmas Eve Living Nativity

The most anticipated moment is the Living Nativity on Christmas Eve, organized by the La Colonnina association, with performances in the afternoon and late evening, followed by a torchlight procession and midnight Mass in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. The festivities conclude at Epiphany with the arrival of the Befana.

Tradition and community

Mountain Christmas is, above all, a community event: as highlighted by the local administration, it strengthens the sense of belonging and celebrates the alpine traditions of Brentonico. The event is organized by the Municipality of Brentonico together with the Pro Loco Brentonico Monte Baldo, with the support of numerous local associations.

Mountain Christmas — edition 2026

The 2025-2026 edition of the Mountain Christmas in Brentonico took place from December 7, 2025, to January 5, 2026, on Via Roma. The village came alive with food stalls, workshops, live music, snowshoeing on Monte Baldo, and the Christmas Eve Living Nativity, offering a long festive period for families and visitors.
