The Haflinger horse at home in Valchiavenna

The Mostra Interregionale del Cavallo Haflinger is a historic livestock exhibition held in the hamlet of Somaggia, in the municipality of Samolaco, in the province of Sondrio. The star is the Avelignese (Haflinger in German), a mountain horse breed with a characteristic bay coat and a thick blonde mane, always associated with the Alpine valleys.

Morphological competitions and exhibition

The event, lasting two days, attracts breeders from several regions who present their horses in morphological competitions, during which the best specimens are judged and awarded. Alongside the technical part, the exhibition features animal displays, demonstration moments, and stands of local gastronomy, making it a true village and community festival.

A shared tradition

The event is organized by ARAL (Lombardy Regional Breeders Association) in collaboration with the Comunità Montana della Valchiavenna (Mountain Community of Valchiavenna), the Province of Sondrio, the Municipality of Samolaco, and A.N.A.C.R.H.A.I., the national association of Haflinger horse breeders. The exhibition has reached a number of editions that testify to the deep roots of this tradition in the life of Valchiavenna.
