About Moscheri Carnival

The Moscheri di Trambileno Carnival is a historic February tradition that brings the village of Moscheri, in the municipality of Trambileno, Vallagarina (Trentino-Alto Adige), to life. Established in the late 1970s, this family-friendly event is organized by the Gruppo Carnevale Trambileno volunteers. It features traditional Trentino cuisine served on a donation basis, a children's costume parade, firefighter-themed games for kids, and visits to the nearby Madonna de La Salette sanctuary.

The Moscheri Carnival: A Village Celebration in Vallagarina

The Moscheri di Trambileno Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in the Vallagarina valley, in the heart of Trentino. Held every February in the village of Moscheri, within the Municipality of Trambileno (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige), it has been gathering the local community and visitors from neighboring towns for nearly half a century for a grand celebration of tradition, hearty food, and children's entertainment.

A Volunteer-Driven Event

The heart of the festival is the Gruppo Carnevale Trambileno, which mobilizes over sixty volunteers each year to set up the festival area in Moscheri, manage the kitchen, and organize activities. It is a community event in the most authentic sense: no large stages, but a covered marquee that welcomes participants even in bad weather, fostering a familiar atmosphere that has evolved over the years to focus increasingly on families and children.

Traditional Trentino Cuisine

One of the reasons this festival is so famous is its traditional cuisine, served from noon onwards on a donation basis. The menu features the great classics of Trentino gastronomy:

  • Polenta prepared in large quantities
  • Sauerkraut and cotechino sausage
  • The signature pasta de mortadela, the festival's iconic dish
  • Waffles served as a sweet treat

Thanks to a partnership with the Italian Celiac Association of Trentino, the entire menu is also available in gluten-free and lactose-free versions, ensuring everyone can join the fun. In recent years, organizers have also prioritized sustainability, using biodegradable tableware and managing waste through a dedicated ecological island.

Costume Parade and Children's Games

The afternoon is dedicated to the little ones. In the early afternoon, the traditional costume parade begins, organized by the Gruppo Giovani di Vanza, featuring dozens of children in fancy dress who are awarded for their creativity. Alongside the parade, the Trambileno Volunteer Firefighters set up Trambileno PompierLand, a firefighter-themed play area that is a huge hit with kids. Visitors can also explore the nearby Madonna de La Salette sanctuary, which remains open throughout the day.

How to Experience the Festival

The Moscheri Carnival is a free event designed for families to discover the popular traditions of Trambileno and the Vallagarina valley. It is the perfect opportunity to spend a February Sunday outdoors, enjoy traditional Trentino dishes, and participate in a festival built entirely by the local community.

Moscheri Carnival — edition 2026

The 48th edition of the Moscheri di Trambileno Carnival took place in mid-February 2026, blessed by a beautiful, almost spring-like sunny day that filled the festival area from the early hours. Sixty-five volunteers brought a record-breaking event to life, with the stated goal of keeping the Carnival focused on children and families.

The 48th Edition: A Record-Breaking Carnival

The 2026 edition of the Moscheri di Trambileno Carnival was a huge success, supported by the hard work of 65 volunteers and a sunny day with almost spring-like weather. The kitchen served impressive quantities: approximately 290 kg of polenta, 200 kg of sauerkraut, 160 kg of pasta de mortadela, 60 cotechini, and over 315 portions of waffles, all available in gluten-free and lactose-free versions.

As for entertainment, the Trambileno PompierLand managed by the Volunteer Firefighters engaged about a hundred children, while the costume parade organized by the Gruppo Giovani di Vanza saw around one hundred young participants parade and receive awards. The commitment to sustainability was also confirmed, with the use of biodegradable tableware disposed of in a dedicated ecological island.
