The horror festival in the medieval village of Morro d'Oro
Morro d'Horror is the horror festival that made its debut on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Morro d'Oro, a small town in the province of Teramo, in the heart of the Abruzzo hills. For its first edition, the medieval village turned into a true open-air film set, dedicating a full day to horror cinema, literature, and culture in all their forms.
The festival was born with the ambition of engaging a wide and diverse audience, combining film production, cultural meetings, and recreational activities. The highlight of the day was the creation of a horror short film shot live along the village alleys, with professional actors joined by the participants themselves, who were able to experience the set firsthand thanks to the Horror Short Film Experience curated by Old Scratch Studios.
Alongside the filming, the program offered meetings with writers, directors, and voice actors, with in-depth discussions on the evolution of the horror genre across different media, from cinema to fiction. There were also moments dedicated to Abruzzo gothic and Lovecraftian atmospheres, as well as themes related to local folklore and popular traditions.
Announced guests for this first edition included voice actor Davide Perino and composer Christian Del Pinto, who were called upon to give voice and sound to the festival's cinematic soul.
The event was born under the artistic direction of Simone Di Gregorio and Francesca Maria Grande, realized in collaboration with the association Lector in Fabula and Old Scratch, thanks to the extraordinary contribution of the Pro Loco of Morro d'Oro and with the patronage of the Municipality of Morro d'Oro, led by Mayor Romina Sulpizii. Admission to the event was free and open to everyone, in an atmosphere that successfully combined the charm of an Abruzzo medieval village with a taste for thrills and the horror imagination.
