Carnival Party at Cascina San Giovanni and a family-friendly town square festival
The Moretta Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in this small town of just over four thousand residents, located in the province of Cuneo, in the Saluzzo plains at the foot of Monviso, Piedmont. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Moretta in collaboration with the local council and various local associations, including the "B Team" and the Alpini Association, who have contributed for years to keeping the most cheerful winter festival in Moretta alive.
The Moretta Carnival is divided into two distinct and complementary moments. The first is the Carnival Party, a dance night for adults held in the hall of Cascina San Giovanni, at Via San Giovanni 7: an aperitif, themed dinner, and live music transform the venue into a grand masquerade ballroom. The second is the Carnival in the Square, a completely free afternoon dedicated to families and children, bringing the colors and joy of Carnival to the heart of the town center.
The Carnival Party dinner is a true showcase of Piedmontese cuisine: dishes such as roast loin with Piedmontese hazelnuts or traditional pasta courses accompany an evening that blends fine dining with fun. The convivial spirit typical of local village festivals is ever-present, with discounted rates for members of "Amis del Carlevè," the association that brings together local Carnival enthusiasts.
The most anticipated moment for families is the Carnival in the Square, featuring entertainment, games, and activities for children, alongside the distribution of polenta and sausage prepared in collaboration with the Alpini. It is an opportunity to experience the community spirit of Moretta, rediscover the folk traditions of the Cuneo area, and spend festive days in the town center, in a welcoming atmosphere that makes this event a classic of the local calendar.
The Moretta Carnival takes place during the Carnival season, between late January and February, featuring the Carnival Party evening and the Carnival in the Square afternoon.
The Carnival Party is held in the hall of Cascina San Giovanni, at Via San Giovanni 7 in Moretta (Cuneo, Piedmont); the Carnival in the Square takes place in the town center.
