The Cavallerizza Caprilli opens its doors for the first time
For the first time in its history, the national Monumenti Aperti (Open Monuments) festival comes to Pinerolo, in the Metropolitan City of Turin (Piedmont). The initiative, promoted by the Imago Mundi OdV association and now in its thirtieth national edition, dedicates an entire weekend to the extraordinary free opening of a landmark of Italian equestrian tradition: the Cavallerizza Caprilli.
Built between 1909 and 1910 by the Military Engineers, the Cavallerizza Caprilli is an authentic masterpiece of Art Nouveau architecture. Dedicated to Captain Federico Caprilli, the father of the modern system of equitation, it remains the largest indoor riding arena in Europe and one of the oldest structures of its kind. Its presence testifies to Pinerolo's deep bond with equestrian culture and military training, a vocation that has defined the city's history for over a century.
At the heart of the Monumenti Aperti project is the involvement of the new generation: in Pinerolo, pupils from class 5B of the Maria Immacolata Primary School will guide visitors to discover the secrets of the Cavallerizza. It is a model of active citizenship that for thirty years has placed young people at the forefront of narrating their local heritage.
The opening of the Cavallerizza is part of a broader cultural moment for the city: during the same days, the structure also hosts the photographic exhibition Becoming Climate, promoted by the Rotary Club Pinerolo. The 2026 edition of Monumenti Aperti involves over 800 sites in 18 Italian regions, under the patronage of the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Tourism. Pinerolo thus joins a great collective narrative dedicated to memory, participation, and the enhancement of cultural heritage.
For the first time, Pinerolo joins Monumenti Aperti with the opening of the Cavallerizza Caprilli.
During the same days, the Cavallerizza hosts the photographic exhibition Becoming Climate (World Press Photo), promoted by the Rotary Club Pinerolo and open until June 6.
