The Vespa rally through the narrow streets of the medieval village of Monteodorisio
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Some rallies are born big, while others grow from the ground up, fueled by the affection of a few people for an object that has become a symbol. The Vespa Day in Monteodorisio, a small town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, belongs to the latter category: it is a celebration for those who love the Vespa and love their town, and decided to bring the two together. The initiative was born in 2024 thanks to brothers Graziano, Dino, and Guido Cesare, and in just a few editions, it has become one of the most anticipated summer events in the village.
The heart of the day is the vintage and classic Vespa rally, with colorful and gleaming scooters parading through the streets of the historic center. And the historic center of Monteodorisio is no ordinary backdrop: the fortified village preserves walls, watchtowers, and gates that tell its medieval history at every turn. Dominating everything is the Castle, built in the Norman era over a pre-existing tower to overlook the Sinello Valley, and now home to the Museum of Economy between Antiquity and the Renaissance. Riding through these alleys on a Vespa, or watching them pass by while sitting on your doorstep, is an image that blends the nostalgia of the golden years of the Italian scooter with the intact charm of a village that seems frozen in time.
Vespa Day is not just about engines. After the ride, participants gather for lunch at the 'Ndernappe and pallotte casce e ove Festival, a gastronomic celebration honoring two signature dishes of Monteodorisio. 'Ndernappe is a humble pasta made from flour, bran, water, and salt, once prepared by those who could not afford "white" flour pasta; the pallotte casce e ove, cheese and egg balls, have even received recognition as the best first course at the Traditional Product Festival. It is the most authentic way to end the day: a traditional peasant dish shared in the town square.
As the municipal administration has emphasized, Monteodorisio believes in the value of meeting, sharing, and promoting its own identity. Vespa Day is exactly that: a simple, free event open to everyone, a living testament to a united and welcoming community. For Vespa enthusiasts, it is an opportunity for a beautiful ride in an off-the-beaten-path corner of Abruzzo; for visitors, it is an excellent excuse to discover a hidden medieval village in the Sinello Valley, just a few kilometers from Vasto and the sea.
At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition of the Monteodorisio Vespa Day have not yet been announced. The event, which reached its second edition in 2025, has so far taken place in July with a rally of vintage and classic Vespas through the streets of the historic center, followed by lunch at the 'Ndernappe Festival.
The official program, including the date, times, and registration details, will be published by the organizers (the Cesare brothers, with the patronage of the Municipality) on the municipal social media channels. Check back for updates.
Monteodorisio is located inland in the province of Chieti, in the Sinello Valley, a few kilometers from Vasto. By car: take the Vasto Sud/Casalbordino exit on the A14 motorway, then follow provincial roads inland. The nearest train station is Vasto-San Salvo, on the Adriatic line, connected to the town by local buses.
The rally takes place in the historic center and is free and open to everyone. Registration for the Vespa ride and lunch at the 'Ndernappe Festival are managed by the organizers: for information, it is best to follow the social media channels of the Municipality of Monteodorisio.
The village streets are uphill and cobbled: comfortable shoes are recommended. Combine your visit with the Castle and the medieval alleys to make the most of your day.
