The spring festival of Valdarno featuring fresh fava beans, pizza, and local products
The Montemarciano Baccelli Festival is one of the most anticipated spring events in the Aretine Valdarno. It takes place annually in the small hamlet of Montemarciano, a hillside village of just over a hundred residents that is part of the municipality of Terranuova Bracciolini, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany. For three days, the village transforms into a lively hub where the local community welcomes visitors with its proverbial hospitality.
The festival's signature dish is the baccelli, the fresh seasonal fava beans that arrive on Tuscan tables in spring. Traditionally, they are enjoyed raw paired with pecorino cheese, but the festival also features other specialties: freshly baked pizza, grilled meats, and numerous local products. Food stalls open for dinner every day starting at 7:30 PM, and on Sundays, they are also open for lunch from 1:00 PM.
Beyond the excellent food, the Baccelli Festival offers a rich program of free entertainment: evenings with live music, DJ sets, rock concerts, family shows, and the unmissable concert by the Filarmonica G. Verdi of Montemarciano. The sporting dimension is also well-represented with the historic Coppa Montemarciano cycling race, a road race that attracts enthusiasts and athletes from across the region.
The festival also preserves its religious and folk roots: on Sunday, Holy Mass is celebrated at the Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie, a sacred building erected in 1532, followed by the traditional blessing of the cyclists. Organized by the Comitato Festa Montemarciano with the patronage of the Municipality of Terranuova Bracciolini, the festival is a perfect example of a genuine village celebration, where tradition, gastronomy, and social life blend in a warm, family-friendly atmosphere.
The 53rd edition of the Montemarciano Baccelli Festival was held from May 8 to 10, 2026, organized by the Comitato Festa Montemarciano with the patronage of the Municipality of Terranuova Bracciolini. Three days dedicated to fresh fava beans and local products, accompanied by a rich program of music, sports, and shows, all with free entry.
Throughout the festival, it was possible to visit the Historical Museum of GS Montemarciano.
