The car slalom race on the SP55 Macchia-Monte Sant'Angelo road, in the heart of the Gargano
The Monte Sant'Angelo City Slalom is the premier motorsport event in the Gargano region: an uphill slalom race held along the Strada Provinciale 55, in the stretch between the village of Macchia and the town of Monte Sant'Angelo, in the province of Foggia. The event is organized by the A.S.D. Gargano Racing Team, in collaboration with the Tecno Motor Racing Team, and has firmly established itself in the Apulian motorsport calendar.
The race course measures 3,600 meters and is defined by thirteen chicanes (the obstacles drivers must navigate without hitting them), laid out along an ascent that winds through the hairpin bends of the Gargano promontory. It is a technical and spectacular track, nestled in the greenery of the Gargano National Park, with wide panoramic areas that allow the public to follow the race while overlooking the landscape between the sea and the mountains.
2026 marks a historic turning point for the event: the Monte Sant'Angelo City Slalom joins the Italian Absolute Slalom Championship (CIAS) for the first time, the top national series organized by ACI Sport. The Gargano race is one of the seven rounds of the 2026 CIAS calendar and has been awarded a 1.5 coefficient, a recognition of the growth achieved over five editions by the Gargano Racing Team.
The event is sponsored by the Apulia Region, the Municipality of Monte Sant'Angelo, the Automobile Club Foggia, CONI Puglia, and the Gargano National Park Authority. Beyond the sporting aspect, the slalom serves as a tourist promotion opportunity for Monte Sant'Angelo, a UNESCO World Heritage village thanks to the Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel, and for the entire Gargano area, which welcomes drivers, teams, and enthusiasts from all over Central and Southern Italy during the race days.
The 2026 edition, the sixth organized by the A.S.D. Gargano Racing Team, takes place on August 29 and 30, 2026, along the 3,600-meter track with thirteen chicanes on the SP55 between Macchia and Monte Sant'Angelo, in the Gargano National Park.
The major news is its entry into the Italian Absolute Slalom Championship (CIAS): the Gargano race is one of the seven titled rounds of 2026 and earns a 1.5 coefficient, a milestone that brings the best national slalom specialists to Monte Sant'Angelo.
The event confirms the patronage of the Apulia Region, the Municipality of Monte Sant'Angelo, and the Gargano National Park Authority, with spectators expected along the panoramic areas of the course.
Monte Sant'Angelo can be reached by car via the SS89 Garganica; from the A14 motorway, take the Foggia or San Severo exit, then head towards Manfredonia and finally Monte Sant'Angelo. The race takes place along the SP55 in the Macchia-Monte Sant'Angelo stretch, which is closed to traffic during practice and competition.
Reference railway station: Foggia, which is connected by bus lines to the Gargano. Nearest airport: Bari-Palese, approximately a two-hour drive away.
Public access to the panoramic areas along the route is free. It is recommended to follow the instructions of the race management and security staff and to park only in authorized areas.
