The trail running race on the peaks of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines, in Serra Sant'Abbondio
The Monte Catria Extreme Trail is one of the most anticipated events on the Marche trail running calendar. It takes place in Serra Sant'Abbondio, a small village in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, at the foot of the Monte Catria massif (1,701 m), in the heart of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines. The event's headquarters is the square in front of the Town Hall, from which all races start and where awards, refreshments, and side activities are concentrated.
The format includes three courses designed for athletes of different levels and experience, all starting and finishing in the center of Serra Sant'Abbondio:
The routes traverse panoramic ridges, ancient woods, and trails that skirt fascinating places like the Hermitage and Monastery of Fonte Avellana, offering a sporting experience immersed in the wild nature of the Marche Park and mountains.
Over the years, the Monte Catria Extreme Trail has grown to become a true showcase for the Marche region in the world of off-road running. The long race awards ITRA points and is recognized by the UTMB Index, thus qualifying for the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc circuit competitions. This recognition attracts athletes from all over Italy and abroad each year, helping to promote the territory of Serra Sant'Abbondio and the Pesaro hinterland.
The event is organized by the association Corripergola ASD with the patronage of the Municipality of Serra Sant'Abbondio, the Pro Loco, and the Regional Council - Legislative Assembly of the Marche. In addition to the competition, the day is enlivened by the involvement of the entire community: volunteers along the trails, refreshment points, a pasta party, and festive moments that transform the village into a meeting point for enthusiasts and families. More than just a race, the Monte Catria Extreme Trail is an opportunity to discover the Marche mountains through running.
