A Ride That Became a Tradition

The San Cataldo Day is a non-competitive mountain bike tour that takes place in Esanatoglia, a village in the upper Esino valley in the province of Macerata, in the Marche region. The event was born in 2012 as a simple ride among friends and, edition after edition, has grown to become one of the most anticipated off-road events in central Italy. It is organized by ASD Gruppo Ciclistico Matelica in collaboration with the Esatrail association of Esanatoglia, which manages the dense network of marked trails around the town.

The Esatrail Trails

The heart of the event lies in the routes that wind through the mountains surrounding Esanatoglia: winding, flowing, and at times adrenaline-pumping tracks, with challenging climbs towards Monte Cafaggio and Monte Corsegno and technical descents through the Apennine woods. Along the way, you'll encounter picturesque spots like the Hermitage of San Cataldo, which gives the event its name, and the springs of the Esino river. The panoramic views opening up on the Apennine ridges are an integral part of the experience.

Multiple Routes for Every Rider

The format typically includes two to three routes of increasing length and difficulty, welcoming both the fittest bikers and those looking for a more relaxed ride. Distances usually range between 14 and 35 kilometers, with elevation gains from a few hundred to over 1,500 meters. There are also initiatives for children, with the Mini San Cataldo Day formula designed for young local cyclists.

Sport, Refreshments, and Camaraderie

The San Cataldo Day is not a timed competition but a gathering focused on friendship and outdoor sports. Refreshment stops are set up along the routes, while at the finish line, participants can enjoy the traditional pasta party with tagliatelle and convivial moments in a village festival style. The race pack includes local typical products and gadgets, and the largest groups are awarded prizes. The village of Esanatoglia, with its authentic atmosphere, provides the backdrop for a day that combines passion for cycling with the discovery of the Macerata territory.
