The young talents of Central Europe in Cividale

MittelYoung is the younger and more experimental offshoot of Mittelfest, the major international festival in Cividale del Friuli. Dedicated exclusively to artists under 30, MittelYoung brings to the city every spring a selection of theatre, music, dance, and circus performances by the new creative generations of the Central European area.

A showcase born from an international open call

The heart of the project is the international open call: every year Mittelfest receives hundreds of applications from all over Central Europe, and a jury selects a small group of proposals, which are presented to the public and industry professionals during the festival days. For young artists, it is a precious opportunity for visibility, comparison, and entry into European professional circuits.

In dialogue with the Mittelfest theme

MittelYoung shares the annual theme with Mittelfest: the selected performances interpret the edition's keyword with contemporary languages, offering a fresh and often surprising perspective on the major themes of the present. The showcase anticipates the main summer event by a few weeks, helping to make Cividale a permanent laboratory for the performing arts.

The performances animate the most evocative locations in the historic center of Cividale del Friuli, from the Teatro Adelaide Ristori to the open-air spaces of the Lombard city, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Promoted by the Mittelfest Association with the support of the Municipality of Cividale del Friuli and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, MittelYoung confirms the international and generational vocation of a festival that has been fostering dialogue among the peoples of Central Europe for decades.
