Music, art, and visuals at the Castle of Milazzo, between the sea and the Aeolian Islands
The Mish Mash Festival is one of the most original musical and cultural events in Eastern Sicily. It takes place every August at the Castle of Milazzo, the fortified citadel of Arab-Norman origin that dominates the promontory of the town of Milazzo, in the province of Messina, overlooking the sea and the nearby Aeolian Islands. The fortress, the largest in Sicily, becomes a natural stage for three days where music, visual art, and local identity intertwine.
The name itself, Mish Mash, reflects the festival's philosophy: a deliberate fusion of genres and languages. The stage features a mix of indie, pop, electronic, hip-hop, rock, and funk, with a constant focus on the emerging scene and experimental projects. Alongside the music, there are art installations, performances, and spectacular video mapping sessions that project lights and images onto the castle's stone walls.
The layout utilizes two distinct spaces within the monumental complex:
Organized by the Mosaico Cultural Association, the Mish Mash Festival has grown to record over 47,000 attendees in its first nine editions and has hosted more than 130 artists. It has become a driver for the tourism and cultural promotion of Milazzo and the entire Tyrrhenian area of Messina, attracting a young and passionate audience that combines the discovery of Sicily's historical heritage with the festival experience.
The event provides mobility solutions with dedicated shuttles and camping areas for those arriving from out of town, making the experience accessible even to those visiting Sicily for the occasion. Tickets are distributed via the DICE platform.
For its tenth anniversary, the Mish Mash Festival returns to the Castle of Milazzo from August 10 to 12, 2026. The edition's theme is inspired by the idea of travel, Homeric epic, and Greek mythology, with references to the legend of Polyphemus and the cyclops that was already the symbol of the first edition.
The program brings together names from the new Italian scene and international projects, including Yin Yin, Tutti Fenomeni, Tony Pitony, Ditonellapiaga (fresh from the 2026 Sanremo Festival), Turbolenta, Bouganville, Nico Arezzo, Le Feste Antonacci, Sam Ruffillo, Amore Audio, faccianuvola, and Pufuleti.
There is also space for DJ sets by Freja, Lodomil & MTM, and Erika De Gaetano, as well as the winners of the Figli delle Stelle contest — Claudio Covato, Moyre, and Piazza Trento's — who animate the section dedicated to emerging artists.
The former Benedictine monastery hosts warm-ups and DJ sets with video mapping by the Pixel Shapes collective, while the Duomo Antico square hosts the main stage. Tickets are available on DICE, with travel solutions and camping areas.
The Castle of Milazzo is located in the upper part of the city, within the fortified Citadel. By car: A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, take the Milazzo exit, then follow signs for the historic center and the castle. By train: Milazzo station, connected to the Tyrrhenian lines, with local buses to the center. Reference airports: Catania-Fontanarossa and Reggio Calabria.
Tickets (full passes and daily entries) are on sale on the DICE platform via the official website. Camping areas and shuttle services are available.
Due to the hillside location and the evening nature of the event, comfortable clothing is recommended. In mid-summer, it is advisable to book accommodation in Milazzo in advance, which also serves as an ideal base for excursions to the Aeolian Islands.
