The cultural festival of Milazzo featuring literature, journalism, and current affairs
MilazzoCultFestival is one of the most popular cultural events on the Tyrrhenian coast of Messina. Created to bring the general public closer to the world of books and current affairs, it takes place in the evocative setting of the Atrio del Carmine, located in the historic center of Milazzo, a town in the province of Messina, Sicily. The free evening events feature a mix of book presentations, dialogues, and meetings with nationally renowned guests, set in an informal atmosphere that has earned the festival its reputation as an "open-air literary salon."
The event is promoted by the Pro Loco of Milazzo in collaboration with the Municipality of Milazzo, Demea Eventi, and the Mondadori Store. The organizers' stated goal is to promote culture as a common good and to involve young people in particular, offering them the opportunity to meet writers, journalists, and personalities from the worlds of law and politics up close.
Throughout its editions, MilazzoCultFestival has hosted prominent names from the Italian cultural scene: established writers, investigative journalists, magistrates committed to the fight against the mafia, and institutional figures. Each meeting is structured as a genuine dialogue, often moderated by journalists and local personalities, blending book presentations with reflections on pressing current issues, ranging from legality to social and family dynamics.
Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and famous for its castle and the peninsula stretching toward the Aeolian Islands, Milazzo finds in this festival an opportunity to assert its cultural identity. Throughout the summer evenings, the Atrio del Carmine becomes a meeting point for residents and visitors alike, helping to enliven the historic center and placing the city firmly on the map of cultural events in north-eastern Sicily.
The 2026 edition of MilazzoCultFestival, the fifth of the series, opens on May 19 and continues until July 19 at the Atrio del Carmine in Milazzo. All meetings are free to attend and start at 6:00 PM. Once again this year, the festival, promoted by the Pro Loco of Milazzo with the Municipality, Demea Eventi, and Mondadori Store, offers a program that weaves together literature, journalism, current affairs, and civic engagement.
The program brings together nationally renowned names: Father Enzo Fortunato with "E se tornasse Francesco?", psychotherapist Stefania Andreoli with "Un'ottima famiglia", Pier Ferdinando Casini with "Al centro dell'aula. Dalla Prima Repubblica a oggi", investigative journalist Lirio Abbate with "I diari del boss", former Senate President Pietro Grasso with "U Maxi", journalist Serena Bortone with "A te vicino così dolce", and writer Nadia Terranova with "Quello che non so di te".
All meetings start at 6:00 PM at the Atrio del Carmine.
Milazzo is easily accessible by car via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, taking the Milazzo exit. The Milazzo railway station is served by the Messina-Palermo line; from the station, the historic center and the Atrio del Carmine can be reached in just a few minutes. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa.
Admission to all evening events is free. Meetings generally take place in the evening at the Atrio del Carmine, on Via Francesco Crispi. It is recommended to arrive early to secure a seat.
