The ultimate summer celebration of local cuisine in the squares and districts of Santa Lucia del Mela
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of summer, the village of Santa Lucia del Mela, in the province of Messina, dedicates one of its most cherished evenings to its iconic local dish: maccheroni al sugo. The Maccheroni Festival is a highlight of the municipal 'Vivi Santa Lucia del Mela' summer calendar, which brings the town's squares and districts to life every evening from June to September with free concerts, shows, food festivals, and traditional games.
The stars of the evening are the maccheroni, prepared according to the traditional Sicilian recipe and tossed in a rich, fragrant sauce. Served in generous portions at stalls set up for the occasion, the pasta becomes the perfect excuse to socialize: families, groups of friends, and visitors sit at outdoor tables to share the pleasure of good food in a genuine, convivial atmosphere.
The 'Food and Music' format accompanying the festival blends gastronomy with live entertainment. As the stalls serve up dishes, the square fills with music, dancing, and animation, turning the tasting into a true village party. The evening atmosphere, with lights and sounds echoing through the narrow streets of the historic center, offers one of the most characteristic experiences of the local summer.
The festival takes place in iconic locations throughout the village, from Piazza Margherita, the beating heart of the center, to rural areas like Contrada San Nicola, where local businesses and restaurateurs—including 'La Forchetta del Castello'—offer their own take on the event. This dual urban and rural spirit beautifully illustrates the deep bond between the community and its cuisine.
Dominated by its ancient Arab-Norman castle and overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Aeolian Islands, Santa Lucia del Mela is a hillside village rich in history, churches, and traditions. The Maccheroni Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover this corner of the province of Messina, in Sicily, combining the pleasures of the table with the charm of an ancient historic center.
At the moment, the 2026 program for the Maccheroni Festival in Santa Lucia del Mela has not yet been published. The festival is traditionally part of the 'Vivi Santa Lucia del Mela' summer calendar, which brings the village to life from June to September. We are awaiting the official announcement of dates, locations, and details from the Municipality and the organizing associations.
Santa Lucia del Mela is located in the province of Messina, just a few kilometers from Milazzo and the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway exit. It is easily accessible by car from the Milazzo junction; the nearest train station is in Milazzo, which is connected to the village by provincial roads.
The event takes place on summer evenings, generally between July and August, as part of the 'Vivi Santa Lucia del Mela' calendar. Events usually start in the evening, from 8:00 PM onwards.
Admission to the summer calendar events is generally free; costs apply only to food and drinks at the stalls. We recommend checking the updated dates and locations on the official channels of the Municipality of Santa Lucia del Mela.
