New clowning and street arts invade Milan for the Ambrosian Carnival
The Milan Clown Festival transforms Milan (Municipality of Milan, Lombardy) into a large, widespread stage dedicated to new clowning and circus and street arts. The 19th edition takes place from Wednesday, February 18 to Saturday, February 21, 2026, during the tail end of the Ambrosian Carnival, Milan's version of Carnival which, by Ambrosian tradition, ends later than the rest of Italy.
More than 50 artists and companies of new circus from around the world bring shows, parades, and artistic actions, animating 25 city locations with over 150 events including shows, special events, concerts, activities for children, and conferences. The shows run in rotation from approximately 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM each day, all with free admission.
The 2026 edition revolves around the theme 'Aeiou Circus: Literacy in Affection': a statement of intent about caring for others, building relationships, and rediscovering the value of togetherness. The festival is promoted by the School of Circus and Theater Arts of Milan.
Among the guests are Germany's Marie Elin Schmitz with trapeze performances, Cia La Route with clowning and juggling, Teatro Pachuco from Belgium with urban mime-dance, Duo Jenga, Julaz Teatro, and Teatro Random from Italy. It kicks off on Wednesday the 18th with the inauguration and a day dedicated to social causes, featuring a parade from Via Padova and a celebration at Parco Trotter; the grand finale is on Fat Saturday, February 21st, with the Saturday Night Closing Party, guest star Cia La Buffa, and a concert by the 400 Strings.
