Wooden chalets and a Northern European Christmas atmosphere in the heart of Milan
The Christmas Market in Piazza Duomo is one of the most beloved traditions of Milanese winter. At the foot of the Duomo of Milan, a symbol of the city and the Lombardy region, over sixty wooden chalets are arranged along the pedestrian area of the square and towards the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, recreating the atmosphere of Northern European Christmas villages in the heart of the Municipality of Milan.
The chalets offer local crafts, Christmas decorations, home decor items, wooden toys, candles, nativity scenes, and leather and wool accessories. There is also a wide range of food options: artisanal Christmas sweets like panettone, torrone, strudel, and spiced cookies, typical regional Italian products including cheeses and cured meats, and hot drinks like hot chocolate and mulled wine. Among the attractions are a life-size nativity scene and Santa's House where children can meet him, as well as magic shows, jugglers, and music.
Organized by the Municipality of Milan, the market is held annually from the beginning of December until January 6th, covering the entire festive period. It is an unmissable event for Milanese residents and the numerous tourists who flock to the city center during this time, attracted by the Christmas lights, shop window displays, and the festive atmosphere of Milan's most famous square.
The 2026-2027 edition of the Christmas Market in Piazza Duomo will take place from December 1, 2026, to January 6, 2027, following the biennial authorization granted by the Municipality of Milan. Over 60 wooden chalets will animate the pedestrian area at the foot of the Duomo, offering crafts, Christmas decorations, gift ideas, and gastronomic specialties.
Among the offerings are artisanal Christmas sweets (panettone, torrone, strudel), regional specialties, hot chocolate, and mulled wine, as well as a nativity scene and Santa's House for the little ones. Admission is free.
