The longest-running road race in Abruzzo, since 1971
The Miglianico Tour is one of Italy's oldest and most beloved running events. Founded on September 8, 1971, by pioneers Roberto Terenzio and Renato Cepparo, it is considered one of the first Italian events over 15 kilometers organized outside of the official FIDAL circuits. Since then, the race has been held without interruption every year in Miglianico, a hilltop village in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, becoming the region's longest-running road race.
The start and finish lines are located in Piazza Umberto I, in the historic center of Miglianico. Athletes can choose between the 18-kilometer competitive race, consisting of two laps, and the 9-kilometer single-lap race. Both tracks follow the historic route of the first edition, winding through hilly terrain with scenic views of the Teatine countryside. The race takes place in the late summer afternoon, starting around 6:30 PM, to avoid the peak heat and provide participants with a beautiful sunset atmosphere.
The Miglianico Tour is more than just a race for professionals: the program includes youth races for promotional categories and the Mini Tour (along with the Mini-mini Tour), featuring shorter courses designed for children and teenagers. Every year, thousands of athletes and young runners bring the village streets to life, while the weekend turns into a true local festival with refreshment stands, award ceremonies, and prize draws. The event is organized by the A.S.D. ADES - Amici dello Sport association of Miglianico.
The event is traditionally held on the second Sunday of August, with youth races taking place on the preceding Saturday. Registration fees are affordable, and online registration closes in the days leading up to the race. Full details, regulations, and participation guidelines are available on the official event website.
In 2026, the Miglianico Tour celebrates its 55th edition, confirming its status as the longest-running road race in Abruzzo. The event spans two days: Saturday, August 8, with youth races, individual and group awards, final refreshments, and the evening village festival; Sunday, August 9, with the main race and the Mini Tour. Runners will follow the historic route of the first edition, with the start and finish in Piazza Umberto I.
Sunday features a packed schedule of starts: at 5:00 PM the Mini-mini Tour (300 m), at 5:15 PM the Mini Tour (700 m), at 5:30 PM the youth promotional category races, and at 6:30 PM the start of the 18 km and 9 km competitive races. The meeting point is Piazza Umberto I, with athletes ready by 6:15 PM.
The fee for the 18 km competitive race is 10 euros (discounted rate until June 30), while the 9 km race costs 10 euros with registration open until August 6. Reduced rates are available for youth categories (5 euros) and the Mini Tour (3 euros). The event is organized by A.S.D. ADES of Miglianico.
