The Midsummer Watermelon Dream is one of the most characteristic and popular events of the summer in Foiano della Chiana, in the Province of Arezzo, in the heart of the Tuscan Valdichiana. Every year in August, the central Piazza Frà Benedetto becomes the stage for a special evening, blending cultural events, gastronomic experiences, and a village festival, all built around an unexpected protagonist: the watermelon.

A noble fruit of the Valdichiana

In the Valdichiana, the watermelon is no ordinary fruit: it is a crop of great tradition, linked to the fertile soils of the plain and the work of generations of farmers. The evening was created precisely to bring this summer delight back into the spotlight, telling its story and showcasing local expertise. The star of the event is the historic Valdichiana Rampi farm, which grows watermelons over vast areas in this region: its farmers guide the public in discovering the different varieties.

What to expect during the evening

• Tasting of the various types of watermelon produced in the Valdichiana, to grasp the differences in taste, texture, and sweetness.
• Meeting the producers: the expert farmers from the Valdichiana Rampi farm accompany participants not only in tasting the fruit but, above all, in getting to know it thoroughly and appreciating it.
• Stories and tradition: an opportunity to hear the history of the Valdichiana watermelon and the deep bond between this fruit and the Foiano territory.
• Live music and conviviality: the evening combines flavor and musical entertainment in the true spirit of an outdoor summer festival.

Part of the EstArte program

The event is part of the rich EstArte program, the festival that accompanies Foiano della Chiana and the hamlet of Pozzo from June to September with a schedule of cultural, musical, food and wine, and social events. Promoted by the Municipal Administration of Foiano della Chiana in collaboration with the Valdichiana Rampi farm, the Midsummer Watermelon Dream is the moment when a product of the land becomes a pretext for gathering in the square, amidst authentic flavors and a summer atmosphere, and for renewing the community's bond with its agricultural tradition.
