Celtic rites, sacred fires, and music at the summer solstice in Marina di Ravenna
Midsummer Fires – Summer Solstice by the Sea is the festival that, every year around the end of June, enlivens the Fishing Harbor of Marina di Ravenna, a coastal fraction of the Municipality of Ravenna, in Emilia-Romagna. The event celebrates the summer solstice by reviving traditions, suggestions, and atmospheres of Celtic heritage, in an intertwining of magic, mystery, history, and fantasy that perfectly complements the festive atmosphere of Notte Rosa, the renowned summer New Year's Eve of the Romagna Riviera.
For two evenings, the long fishing harbor becomes a widespread stage: historical groups in costume, druids, and shamans lead celebrations and propitiatory rites linked to the shortest night of the year. The re-enactment parades march accompanied by the Tamburi di Brisighella (Bells of Brisighella), while dramatic performances stage the fight between the "forces of good" and the "forces of evil," with arrivals from the sea, lighting of sacred fires, and ritual blessings along the water. The central stage also hosts a captivating symbolic Celtic wedding.
The festival's soundtrack is provided by Celtic music: bagpipes and the itinerant sounds of the Cisalpipers accompany the public among the stalls, and the evening continues with themed DJ sets. There's also the show-conference "The Magic of Water", parades of stilt walkers and street artists, and to conclude, the final fire show curated by Teatro Lunatico (Moonlit Theatre), the true highlight of the event.
Alongside the shows, the artisan market and food stalls offer local and Ferrarese specialties, to be enjoyed while strolling with the sea as a backdrop. It's an opportunity to discover the flavors of Romagna cuisine in an atmospheric evening setting.
With completely free admission, Midsummer Fires is designed for families, the curious, and enthusiasts of popular traditions and folklore. Organized by the Pro Loco of Marina di Ravenna, the event is part of the rich summer calendar of the Province of Ravenna and represents one of the most characteristic events on the Ravenna coast, capable of uniting tourists and residents under the solstice sky.
The 2026 edition of Midsummer Fires will take place on Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the Fishing Harbor of Marina di Ravenna, coinciding with the Notte Rosa of the Romagna Riviera.
Both evenings open at 6:00 PM with the market, followed by food stalls offering local and Ferrarese specialties. The program includes the show-conference "The Magic of Water" by Marya Sazanaska, itinerant music by the Cisalpipers, parades by re-enactors accompanied by the Tamburi di Brisighella, and dramatic performances on the theme of "forces of good" and "forces of evil," with the lighting of sacred fires along the harbor. Sunday will feature the symbolic Celtic wedding, while at 10:30 PM, the final fire show by Teatro Lunatico will take place.
Marina di Ravenna can be reached by car from the SS67 and the Statale Adriatica; from Ravenna station, there are bus lines to the seaside resorts (line to Marina di Ravenna). The event takes place in the Fishing Harbor area, along Via Molo Dalmazia.
Market and food stalls open from 6:00 PM, evening shows until late. Free admission.
It is advisable to arrive early for parking on summer evenings and to enjoy the lighting of the sacred fires and the final fire show. For information: Pro Loco Marina di Ravenna, tel. +39 0544 530117.
