About Midsummer Fires

In Marina di Ravenna, at the heart of Notte Rosa, the fishing harbor transforms for a weekend into a captivating open-air theatre dedicated to the summer solstice. Midsummer Fires intertwines magic, mystery, history, and fantasy with traditional Celtic rites, costumed re-enactment parades, itinerant music, markets, and food stalls overlooking the Romagna sea. Featuring the lighting of sacred fires, show-conferences, symbolic Celtic weddings, and fire performances, it's a free popular festival celebrating the longest night of the year.

A Night of Magic at the Summer Solstice

Midsummer Fires – Summer Solstice by the Sea is the festival that, every year around the end of June, enlivens the Fishing Harbor of Marina di Ravenna, a coastal fraction of the Municipality of Ravenna, in Emilia-Romagna. The event celebrates the summer solstice by reviving traditions, suggestions, and atmospheres of Celtic heritage, in an intertwining of magic, mystery, history, and fantasy that perfectly complements the festive atmosphere of Notte Rosa, the renowned summer New Year's Eve of the Romagna Riviera.

Celtic Rites and Historical Re-enactment

For two evenings, the long fishing harbor becomes a widespread stage: historical groups in costume, druids, and shamans lead celebrations and propitiatory rites linked to the shortest night of the year. The re-enactment parades march accompanied by the Tamburi di Brisighella (Bells of Brisighella), while dramatic performances stage the fight between the "forces of good" and the "forces of evil," with arrivals from the sea, lighting of sacred fires, and ritual blessings along the water. The central stage also hosts a captivating symbolic Celtic wedding.

Music, Shows, and Fire

The festival's soundtrack is provided by Celtic music: bagpipes and the itinerant sounds of the Cisalpipers accompany the public among the stalls, and the evening continues with themed DJ sets. There's also the show-conference "The Magic of Water", parades of stilt walkers and street artists, and to conclude, the final fire show curated by Teatro Lunatico (Moonlit Theatre), the true highlight of the event.

Flavors of Romagna by the Sea

Alongside the shows, the artisan market and food stalls offer local and Ferrarese specialties, to be enjoyed while strolling with the sea as a backdrop. It's an opportunity to discover the flavors of Romagna cuisine in an atmospheric evening setting.

A Free Festival for the Whole Family

With completely free admission, Midsummer Fires is designed for families, the curious, and enthusiasts of popular traditions and folklore. Organized by the Pro Loco of Marina di Ravenna, the event is part of the rich summer calendar of the Province of Ravenna and represents one of the most characteristic events on the Ravenna coast, capable of uniting tourists and residents under the solstice sky.
