The prose season at the Municipal Theatre, featuring big names and contemporary drama
The Mesagne Theatre Season is the cultural highlight that, each year between winter and spring, raises the curtain at the Municipal Theatre, a historic venue located on Via Federico II di Svevia in the heart of the town in the province of Brindisi. Promoted by the Municipality of Mesagne in collaboration with Puglia Culture and the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese circuit, the festival blends classic prose, brilliant comedy, social theatre, and new drama, bringing top-tier national talent to a small town in Salento.
The schedule alternates between well-known faces from theatre and television and local Apulian companies. From Giobbe Covatta to Enzo Iacchetti, and from Sebastiano Somma to productions by the Teatro Koreja of Lecce, audiences find a perfect balance between popular shows and more experimental works. Alongside prose, the season also features musical theatre, tributes to great Italian songwriters, and projects dedicated to younger audiences through the "La scena dei ragazzi" section.
With its intimate auditorium, the Municipal Theatre of Mesagne offers a close connection between the stage and the audience, making every evening an intense experience. While designed for the local community, the season attracts spectators from across the province of Brindisi and the entire Salento region, helping to establish Mesagne as one of the most vibrant theatrical hubs in Puglia. Performances generally start at 9:00 PM, with doors opening at 8:30 PM.
The season offers subscription packages for the full programme as well as tickets for individual shows, with tiered pricing for the stalls, boxes, and gallery. Tickets can be purchased online, at Vivaticket outlets, or directly at the theatre box office. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover the historic centre of Mesagne, its Norman-Swabian castle, and the city's welcoming tradition, combining a night at the theatre with a visit to one of Puglia's most beautiful towns.
The 2025/2026 Theatre Season at the Municipal Theatre of Mesagne, promoted by the Municipality in partnership with Puglia Culture, presented seven events between February and April 2026. A journey that combined major national prose, brilliant comedy, and social theatre, with forays into musical theatre and a section dedicated to younger audiences.
The programme opened with the intelligent humour of Giobbe Covatta and continued with the meta-theatrical play by Greg and Ninni Bruschetta, the tribute to Domenico Modugno by Teatro Koreja, and the portrait of Pablo Neruda interpreted by Sebastiano Somma. The season also made space for new drama and youth theatre, concluding with a comedy starring Enzo Iacchetti. Performances took place at 9:00 PM at the Municipal Theatre on Via Federico II di Svevia, in Mesagne, province of Brindisi.
