Piedmontese late-afternoon snacks in the square, featuring local flavors and live music in the heart of Monferrato
In the heart of the Monferrato hills, the small village of Villamiroglio in the Province of Alessandria (Piedmont) welcomes visitors with the Merenda Sinora with live music, an evening event held in Piazza San Vito as part of the Golosaria Monferrato festival. This snack-style feast is organized by the Villamiroglio Pro Loco, an association that has been the lifeblood of the village for over half a century, preserving its rich culinary traditions.
The merenda sinora is a classic Piedmontese custom: a late-afternoon snack that stretches long enough to replace dinner, consisting of cured meats, cheeses, local specialties, and regional wines shared around a table. In Villamiroglio, this rustic tradition comes alive in the town square, offering an informal and family-friendly atmosphere where live music creates the perfect village festival vibe.
The event is a highlight of Golosaria Monferrato, the festival created by Paolo Massobrio and curated by Il Golosario, which brings dozens of towns across the provinces of Alessandria and Asti to life during the third weekend of May. Villamiroglio is a key stop on the Monferrato itinerary for those looking to explore local villages, wineries, and cuisine: the Saturday evening Merenda Sinora opens the local program, serving as a prelude to the Fësta d'la Fricia, the Sunday lunch featuring the legendary Piedmontese mixed fry.
Villamiroglio is a small town in the upper Casale Monferrato area, nestled among vineyards, woods, and rolling hills. Attending the Merenda Sinora is the perfect way to combine fine dining with landscape exploration: enjoy a walk through the hills, a stop at nearby wineries, and a delightful evening under the stars in Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The 2026 edition of the Merenda Sinora with live music took place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, starting at 7:00 PM, in Piazza San Vito, Villamiroglio. The event was part of the Golosaria Monferrato 2026 calendar, a special edition celebrating the festival's twentieth anniversary, which involved around forty municipalities between Alessandria and Asti under the theme "Taste, Home, and Hills".
The evening, organized by the Villamiroglio Pro Loco, featured the traditional Piedmontese snack accompanied by live music, creating a convivial atmosphere that kicked off the village's weekend celebrations, followed by the Sunday Fësta d'la Fricia.
