The flea and antique market in Piazza Gramsci, Sant'Elpidio a Mare
The Mercatino delle Soffitte is one of the most charming and popular events of the summer in Sant'Elpidio a Mare, a hilltop village in the province of Fermo, in the heart of the Marche region. The idea is simple and fascinating: to give new life to objects lying forgotten in attics, cellars, and storage rooms, transforming Piazza Antonio Gramsci into a large shared space made up of stalls, curiosities, and small finds.
Strolling among the stands, you'll find everything: old vinyl records, used books, ceramics, furniture and furnishings from yesteryear, toys, vintage clothing, coins, postcards, and antique objects. It is the realm of reuse and bartering, where each piece carries a story and where the pleasure of searching is as important as the purchase. For many residents of Sant'Elpidio, it is also an opportunity to clear out wardrobes and pass on what is no longer needed, in a spirit of sustainability.
The market is promoted by the Municipality of Sant'Elpidio a Mare and is part of the rich calendar of summer initiatives designed to liven up the historic centre and its hamlets. Participation as an exhibitor is open to all citizens: simply register at the municipal offices to get a space in the square. This popular and inclusive format makes the event a true moment of community gathering, more than a commercial fair.
The setting is the evocative Piazza Gramsci, overlooking the medieval historic centre of Sant'Elpidio a Mare, with its loggias, palaces, and views that tell the story of one of the most characteristic villages in the Fermo hinterland. Visiting the market thus also becomes an opportunity to discover the town, its churches, and its museums, and to enjoy a break in the bars and cafes in the square.
The 2026 edition of the Mercatino delle Soffitte will take place over three days in Piazza Antonio Gramsci, in the historic centre of Sant'Elpidio a Mare. The flea and antique market is part of the Municipality's summer program, which for 2026 has put in place about 70 initiatives between the historic centre and its hamlets, with the stated goal of fostering community engagement and life.
On each day, Piazza Gramsci hosts exhibitor stalls with used, vintage, and antique items. Participation as an exhibitor is open to all citizens upon registration with the Municipality.
