The international exhibition of flowers and ornamental plants in the heart of Merano
The Merano Flower Festival is the event that officially welcomes spring to Merano, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol. For four days, the Passeggiata Lungo Passirio and the spaces surrounding the historic Kurhaus transform into a grand market exhibition dedicated to high-quality floriculture, where rare plants, precious flowers, and surprising shrubs take center stage.
The festival brings together a selection of approximately 45 exhibitors from various Italian regions and abroad, with participants from Germany and the Netherlands. Specialized nurserymen and artisans bring varieties to Merano that are hard to find in standard nurseries: clematis, proteas, bougainvillea, unusual cacti, antique roses, and collectible citrus trees. The careful selection of exhibitors, based on quality and originality, is one of the event's hallmarks.
Beyond the market, the Merano Flower Festival features artistic floral installations that decorate the city center: large plant figures along the promenade, flower sculptures, and scenic displays. The program includes educational workshops for adults and children on gardening, plant care, floral arrangements, and organic cultivation, as well as meetings with experts and industry journalists. There is no shortage of concerts and live music on the Kurhaus terrace and thematic guided tours.
A large section is reserved for taste, with breakfasts, wine tastings, and gastronomic offerings created in collaboration with Slow Food South Tyrol and the Gallo Rosso quality label, which promotes local products. The event is recognized as a Green Event, with a focus on sustainability and environmental respect—themes that guide the core concept of each year's edition.
Organized by the Merano Tourist Board, the Merano Flower Festival has become a signature event for the South Tyrolean spa town, capable of attracting botany enthusiasts, families, and tourists alike. The unique setting of the Passeggiata Lungo Passirio, with its artistic flowerbeds and the mild climate of Trentino-South Tyrol, makes this exhibition one of the most evocative in the Italian and European floricultural landscape.
The 2026 edition opened on Thursday, April 23rd with the inaugural ceremony on the Kurhaus terrace, featuring institutional greetings, dance performances, and live music. Until Sunday, April 26th, the Passeggiata Lungo Passirio hosted about 45 exhibitors with rare plants, flowers, and unusual shrubs. The program included workshops for adults and children, floral installations in the city center, an audio-guided tour, the "Merano Green Salon" guided visit, and gastronomic offerings with Slow Food South Tyrol and Gallo Rosso. Admission was free.
Merano can be reached by train from Bolzano station via frequent regional connections; by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (Bolzano Sud exit) and the MeBo expressway. The event takes place in the pedestrian center along the Passeggiata Lungo Passirio, just a few minutes' walk from the station.
Open from Thursday to Saturday from morning until evening, and Sunday until the afternoon. Admission is free. Using city parking lots and public transport is recommended during the event days.
The ideal time to combine your visit with a trip to the Merano thermal baths and gardens. Comfortable clothing is recommended for walking along the promenade.
