Three days of sport, community, and movement in the heart of Medicina
The Medicina Sport Festival is one of the most cherished events in the summer calendar of the Municipality of Medicina, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna). Born from a participatory project involving the Municipal Administration, the Sports Council, the numerous sports clubs and associations in the area, and the citizens, the event brings dozens of disciplines, demonstrations, and free try-outs open to everyone to the town's squares and facilities.
The underlying idea is simple yet powerful: to promote sport as a tool for prevention, education, and social integration, allowing children, young people, and adults to try it out for free. For a few days, Medicina's sports sector becomes a large outdoor playground where you can try your hand at basketball, gymnastics, tennis, beach volleyball, football, swimming, roller skating, and many other activities offered by local organizations.
The 2026 edition, scheduled from June 5th to 7th, was particularly important as it coincided with the inauguration of the new Sport Park on the morning of Saturday, June 6th. This is a equipped green area of approximately 70,000 square meters, built with a PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funding of over 570,000 euros, located in the sports sector between Via Battisti, Via Flosa, and Via Argentesi.
The park connects the town's nine sports facilities – including the Marco Rambaldi indoor arena, the gyms, the Enghel Bambi stadium, the tennis courts, the municipal swimming pool, the beach volleyball courts, the Francesco Nanni field, and the roller skating rink – through a circular fitness trail immersed in greenery. The project was designed by Greenarco, a spin-off of the University of Bologna specializing in landscape and green architecture.
The Sport Festival is not just about exhibition, but also an occasion for meeting: families, schools, youth groups, and the entire fabric of Medicina's associations participate in the event. Sports clubs present their activities and collect new registrations for the upcoming season, while the public can watch demonstrations and try-outs led by instructors.
For Medicina, a town in the Bolognese plain, the Sport Festival represents an identity-building moment that combines the promotion of physical activity, the enhancement of public facilities, and community social life.
The heart of the 2026 edition was the inauguration of the new Sport Park on the morning of Saturday, June 6th. The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Medicina, Matteo Montanari, Regional Councillor Fabrizio Castellari, members of the Municipal Council and Board, the Commander of the Carabinieri Daniel Lombardi, and numerous local sports associations and organizations.
The new park – approximately 70,000 sqm of green space between Via Battisti, Via Flosa, and Via Argentesi – connects the town's nine sports facilities through a circular fitness trail, designed by Greenarco, a spin-off of the University of Bologna.
Alongside the inauguration, the three-day event featured demonstrations and free try-outs of disciplines practiced by Medicina's clubs, with the participation of families, young people, and citizens.
