Three days of floats, costumes, and music in the heart of the town of grapes
The Mazzarrone Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the festive calendar of this town in the Metropolitan City of Catania, in the heart of southeastern Sicily. Mazzarrone, known as the "town of grapes" for its famous PGI table grapes, transforms for three days into a grand open-air stage, where parades of floats and costumed groups wind through the streets of the center amidst confetti, music, and fun.
The heart of the event lies in the parades, which kick off in the afternoon, typically starting at 3:00 PM. Handcrafted floats and costumed groups parade along the town streets, accompanied by music and entertainment. The carnival structures and costumes, prepared specifically for the occasion, involve families, children, and local groups in a festive atmosphere that serves as an important social gathering for the entire Mazzarrone community.
When evening falls, the party moves to the main square: each day concludes with dancing, entertainment, and DJ sets that continue until late at night. Musical entertainment is provided by local groups such as Radio Pro Sound and Gruppo Insonnia, with DJs and vocalists taking turns at the console to get the crowd of all ages moving.
Organized by the Municipality of Mazzarrone together with local associations, the Carnival is one of the key events that mark the year in this town in the Province of Catania, alongside the famous International PGI Table Grape Festival in September. It is an authentically popular, free, and open-to-all celebration, designed especially for families and children, which attracts residents and visitors from neighboring towns in the Calatino and Ragusa areas every year.
For the 2026 edition, the Municipality of Mazzarrone published the official program of festivities, spread over three days (March 3-5, 2026). The traditional format was confirmed: afternoon parades of floats and costumed groups along the streets of the historic center and evening dances in the square with music and entertainment until late at night.
