The Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea Carnival: a vibrant celebration of color, masks, and joy
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea Carnival is the grand celebration held in Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea, a town of just over 1,500 residents nestled in the hills of the Tyrrhenian hinterland in the province of Messina, Sicily. It stands as one of the most cherished local events, transforming the village streets and squares into a vibrant stage of color, masks, and pure fun for a few days.
The initiative is promoted by the Pro Loco Mazarak ETS, a local association dedicated to the promotion of the area, in collaboration with the Municipality of Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea. The Carnival is designed as a moment of gathering for the entire citizenry: families, children, and masked groups come together in the town center to experience the festive and overwhelming atmosphere that has always defined this tradition.
True to the Sicilian carnival tradition, the Mazzarrà festival focuses on masks, costumes, and street entertainment throughout the village. Music, confetti, and the infectious enthusiasm of the children make the Mazzarrà Carnival an event with a strong sense of community, deeply rooted in the life of the village and the local festive calendar.
Promoted by the Pro Loco Mazarak as "the most colorful, cheerful, and overwhelming event," the Mazzarrà Carnival returns to entertain Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea during the Carnival season, between February and March. It is a perfect opportunity to discover the most authentic and convivial side of a small Sicilian village, far from the major tourist circuits but rich in warmth and tradition.
The festivities are held in the town center of Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea, along the streets and squares of the village, which are easily accessible on foot or by car. The village's location, near the Tyrrhenian coast and towns such as Furnari, Terme Vigliatore, and Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, makes it an accessible destination for those seeking a genuine, community-focused Carnival experience.
The 2026 Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea Carnival has been announced by the Pro Loco Mazarak ETS as the grand return of the most colorful and spirited celebration in Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea. The event will take place during the traditional Carnival period, between February and March, enlivening the town center with masks, music, and fun for all ages.
