The grand May 1st fair in Luserna San Giovanni, featuring market stalls, flowers, tractors, and local tradition
May 1st in Luserna San Giovanni, a town in the Pellice Valley in the Province of Turin, has always been synonymous with a village festival and a grand open-air market. The May Day Spring Fair is one of the most cherished events on the local calendar: a full day when the town center fills with stalls, scents, colors, and voices, welcoming thousands of visitors from across the valley and the Pinerolo area.
With approximately 250 exhibitors, the fair combines commercial appeal with the most genuine aspects of Piedmontese rural tradition, creating a balance that makes it much more than just a market.
The exhibition spaces are spread across several parts of the town, each with its own identity:
Among the most popular attractions in recent years is the Tractor Rally, organized by the "Fiera dei Santi" Breeders' Association. About fifty agricultural vehicles, ranging from vintage to modern, parade along the Panoramica road connecting the various exhibition areas, complete with special awards for the oldest tractor, the newest, and the youngest and oldest drivers.
The fair has a soul deeply rooted in the countryside: in recent editions, the covered market has hosted small farm and companion animals, while children have been able to experience their first pony ride thanks to local equestrian clubs. To complete the day, there are flower and plant stalls and a rich selection of street food for every taste.
The success of the May Day Spring Fair is the result of the joint efforts of the Municipality of Luserna San Giovanni, the Pro Loco, the Breeders' Association, and the invaluable support of the Alpini Group, AIB, and Civil Protection. It is a day when the Pellice Valley community comes together, blending commerce, tradition, and the joy of being outdoors.
The 2026 May Day Spring Fair was held on Friday, May 1st, in Luserna San Giovanni, from 8 AM to 7 PM with free admission. Approximately 250 exhibitors enlivened the sports facility area on Via Airali (commercial section, managed with the Local Police) and Piazza Partigiani, which was pedestrianized and dedicated to floral and nursery exhibitors curated by the Pro Loco.
The highlight was the second edition of the Tractor Rally, organized by the "Fiera dei Santi" Breeders' Association: meeting at 9 AM in the Bersaglio area for registration (5 euro fee) and the start of the parade at 10 AM. The route passed through the Panoramica road, the Re Carlo Alberto Refuge, and the square of the Waldensian temple of San Giovanni, with a stop for an aperitif, before returning around 12:30 PM. Five special prizes were awarded: to the oldest and youngest tractor driver, to the one who arrived from furthest away, and to the most recent and most historic vehicle.
Every year on May 1st, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Free admission.
