The autumn theatre season by the Terlano amateur company
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Maultaschbühne Terlan is an amateur theatre company based in Terlano/Terlan, a municipality in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige. Founded in 1992, the company takes its name from Margarete Maultasch, the famous Countess of Tyrol, and has been enriching the village's cultural life with its productions for over thirty years. In 2022, it celebrated its thirtieth anniversary, confirming its status as one of the longest-running groups in the rich South Tyrolean amateur theatre scene.
The heart of the company's activity is its autumn season: every year, usually in November, the Maultaschbühne stages a new comedy in German. Performances are held at the Raiffeisenhaus in Terlano, the venue that welcomes locals and visitors alike for evenings of pure entertainment. The repertoire follows the classic tradition of mountain folk theatre (Volkstheater): brilliant comedies, misunderstandings, caricatured characters, and a sense of humour that draws heavily on the South Tyrolean dialect and everyday life.
The company is affiliated with the Südtiroler Theaterverband, the association that brings together and supports the numerous amateur theatre groups in South Tyrol. Like all local amateur companies, the Maultaschbühne thrives on the enthusiasm of its members: actors, directors, technicians, and volunteers who dedicate months of rehearsals to preparing their annual show.
Located along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, just a few kilometres from Bolzano, Terlano is famous for its long-lived white wines and its asparagus, which takes centre stage at festivals and gastronomic events in spring. In this setting, the Maultaschbühne represents the cultural face of the village: attending one of their performances means immersing yourself in the community life of a South Tyrolean town, where dialect theatre remains a collective ritual that unites generations.
The shows are performed in German (and the South Tyrolean dialect), in keeping with the bilingual identity of the Province of Bolzano. In addition to the autumn season, the company also participates in some Carnival (Fasching) events in Terlano. Ticket prices are affordable and family-friendly, with reduced rates for children: accessible theatre that preserves the convivial spirit of village festivals.
The 2026 season of the Maultaschbühne Terlan has not yet been announced. True to its tradition, the amateur company is expected to stage a new German-language comedy at the Raiffeisenhaus in Terlano during the usual period in November. The show's title, cast, and dates will be released by the company on its website and social media channels in the weeks prior to the performances. For updates, we recommend contacting the company directly.
