The Advent Christmas market in Laives, featuring Krampus, nativity scenes, and South Tyrolean flavors
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Christkindlmarkt Leifers, or Laives Christmas Market, is one of the most cherished Advent events in the valley south of Bolzano. Every year, on the weekends leading up to Christmas, Pfarrheim Square (the small square next to the parish house) comes alive with the typical wooden huts, lights, and scents that define South Tyrolean markets. The event is organized by the Laives Bronzolo Vadena Tourist Association with the involvement of numerous local groups, who manage the stalls and curate the entertainment program.
The market offers local handicrafts, gift ideas, and Christmas decorations, alongside a wide range of culinary delights. You will find specialties of South Tyrolean cuisine, traditional pastries, mulled wine, and hot drinks to warm you up on cold winter days. The food stalls stay open longer on Saturday evenings, turning the square into a convivial meeting point for residents and visitors alike.
The calendar for the Laives Christkindlmarkt is packed with events tied to the popular traditions of South Tyrol. One of the most anticipated moments is the Krampus parade, featuring the frightening devilish figures of Alpine folklore, which draws dozens of participants from across the region. At the beginning of December, Saint Nicholas arrives to distribute sweets to children, often accompanied by the Krampus. A charming living nativity scene is set up at the parish church, while a nativity trail comes to life in the town's shop windows, featuring works handcrafted by local enthusiasts.
The market is also designed for the little ones, with children's entertainment, pony rides, and a rich musical program that accompanies visitors along the streets of the town center. The intimate and authentic scale of the Laives Christkindlmarkt sets it apart from the large city markets: here, the welcome is that of a community opening the doors of its town to share the spirit of Christmas.
Located in the autonomous province of Bolzano, in Trentino-South Tyrol, the municipality of Laives (Leifers in German) is a bilingual town just a few kilometers from the provincial capital. The market is an excellent opportunity to discover an authentic corner of South Tyrol far from the most crowded tourist circuits, immersed in the Dolomite landscape and the border culture that unites Italian and Central European traditions.
The 2026 edition of the Christkindlmarkt Leifers does not yet have official confirmed dates. Definitive information regarding the calendar, hours, and program will be published by the Laives Bronzolo Vadena Tourist Association as Advent approaches. It is recommended to check for updates on the market's official channels before planning your visit.
