The obstacle course race among the olive groves of Salento, in Manduria
The Maserino' Obstacle Race is the signature obstacle course race (OCR) event in the town of Manduria, located in the heart of the Salento region in Apulia. The race takes place at the "Da Ghiro & Orso" sports field, a natural area surrounded by olive groves that A.S.D. Body Angel uses as its training and competition ground. Here, athletes tackle a mixed terrain course featuring packed dirt, asphalt, plowed fields, and water sections, testing their endurance, strength, and ability to overcome obstacles.
The event offers various distances designed to accommodate both OCR specialists and those new to the discipline. The main competitive course spans approximately 8 kilometers and features over twenty-five obstacles, while the shorter 3-kilometer trials include about fifteen obstacles, available in both competitive and non-competitive formats for groups and enthusiasts.
Each competitor faces natural and artificial obstacles using a wristband penalty system: the rankings reward those who cross the finish line in the shortest time while retaining the most wristbands.
Since its inception, the Maserino' Obstacle Race has been about more than just competition: the event promotes values such as environmental respect and inclusion, in line with the philosophy of the organizing association. A.S.D. Body Angel, founded in Manduria and led by Liliana Gentile, has been active in the area for years, promoting athletics, obstacle racing, fitness, and gymnastics for all ages, and is an ENDAS-affiliated organization for the OCR sector.
The race has gained significance beyond local borders: the event is now an official stop on the Italian OCR Championship circuit, with the patronage of FIPM and OCRA ITALIA, drawing hundreds of athletes to Manduria from across Apulia and other Italian regions. The backdrop of Salento's olive groves and the meticulous organization make the Maserino' Obstacle Race a benchmark OCR event in the province of Taranto.
The race is also a perfect opportunity to discover Manduria, a Messapian city world-famous for its Primitivo wine and its archaeological heritage. Visitors coming for the race can combine the sporting event with a tour of the historic center, the Messapian walls, and local wineries, enjoying a day that blends sport, nature, and Apulian tradition.
The 3rd edition of the Maserino' Obstacle Race was held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Manduria, in the province of Taranto, at the "Da Ghiro & Orso" sports field nestled among the olive groves of Salento. The race, organized by A.S.D. Body Angel with the patronage of FIPM and OCRA ITALIA, confirmed its status as a stop on the 2025/2026 Italian OCR Championship.
The main 8 km track, featuring over 25 obstacles, awarded the regional title, while the 3 km trials offered a competitive format (with prizes for the top five men and women) and a non-competitive formula open to groups and amateurs. Starts took place in waves on mixed terrain consisting of packed dirt, asphalt, plowed fields, and water sections.
Manduria is located in the province of Taranto, in the Salento area. By car, it can be reached via the SS7 ter and provincial roads connecting Taranto and Lecce; the nearest train station is Manduria on the Sud Est line. The "Da Ghiro & Orso" sports field is located in the countryside of the municipality, amidst the olive groves.
Participation is via paid registration on the platforms indicated by the organizers. For competitive races, a medical certificate for competitive sports and membership with a sports promotion body are required. The race pack includes a medal, timing service, medical assistance, and refreshments.
Organized by A.S.D. Body Angel of Manduria (e-mail: [email protected]).
