The Marrocca Festival in Treglio

The Marrocca Festival is one of the most cherished summer events in Treglio, a small village in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, nestled on three hills that descend gently towards the Adriatic Sea and the Costa dei Trabocchi. The festival takes place in the Paglieroni district and is organized by the Paglieronese Cultural, Recreational and Sports Association, which brings this corner of the countryside to life every summer with a grand evening dedicated to traditional cuisine.

The marrocca, a traditional dish

The absolute star is the marrocca, a preparation linked to corn (maize) and the rural life of the past, when husking corn cobs was a collective ritual that brought entire families together. The festival recovers this rural memory, bringing dishes based on corn and its derivatives to the table according to recipes passed down from generation to generation. It is a dive into the authentic, simple, and genuine flavors of the Frentano hinterland.

A painted village

The festival is also an opportunity to discover Treglio, known as the "village of frescoes": the walls of the houses and the corners of the historic center are decorated with murals and frescoes that tell the story of the territory and its symbolic products, olive oil and wine.
