The Giro d'Italia a Vela arrives at the Island of Elba with regattas and a sailing village
The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour is Italy's great sailing circumnavigation: a true Giro d'Italia a Vela (Tour of Italy by Sail) that connects the peninsula's coasts every year through a series of spectacular stages. In 2026, the circuit also visits Tuscany with a stop in Portoferraio, on the Island of Elba, in the Province of Livorno. The event's headquarters is the Porto Vecchio, at Calata Buccari, in collaboration with the Lega Navale Sezione Portoferraio.
The Tour is no ordinary regatta: it is a high-level sporting event featuring three different disciplines, all of which can be followed from the pier or along the coast.
In Portoferraio, as in every stop, the beating heart of the event is the sailing village, set up at the Porto Vecchio and open to the public free of charge. Here, visitors can meet the crews, discover the world of sailing up close, and participate in sporting, educational, and institutional activities designed for families and enthusiasts. The village serves as a meeting point between competitive sports and the local community, creating a festive atmosphere that enlivens the port for the duration of the stage.
The Tour carries a message that goes beyond competition: the theme «Sea and Future – Valore Paese Italia» focuses on young sailing talents, the protection of the marine environment, the tourism and cultural development of the territory, and the heritage of Italian lighthouses. Each boat in the circuit is named after a lighthouse, paying homage to the nation's maritime history. Promoted by Difesa Servizi S.p.A. and organized with SSI Sport & Events in collaboration with the Marina Militare, the event involves ten international teams composed of Olympic sailors, ocean skippers, and young prospects.
The stage is also an opportunity to discover Portoferraio, an important naval crossroads of the Tyrrhenian Sea: from the Medici fortresses to the Napoleonic residences of Villa dei Mulini and Villa San Martino, and the beaches of Biodola and Le Ghiaie. Experiencing the Nastro Rosa Tour in Elba means combining the thrill of regattas with the beauty of one of Italy's most beloved stretches of sea.
The sixth edition of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2026 crosses Italy with nine stages for a total of approximately 1250 miles, from Venice (departure on June 4) to the finish in Genoa on July 12. The Portoferraio stage, on the Island of Elba, is the seventh of the circuit and takes place from July 4 to 9, 2026. Ten international teams compete in the Tour's three disciplines, while the sailing village enlivens the Porto Vecchio with activities open to everyone.
Throughout the stage, the sailing village is set up at Porto Vecchio, Calata Buccari, with a technical base at the Lega Navale Sezione Portoferraio. The program alternates between regattas at sea and activities on land:
The village is free and open to the public (generally in the morning and from the afternoon until evening).
