About Maremma Archeofilm

The Maremma Archeofilm Festival is an archaeological, artistic, and environmental film festival that brings the Giardino dell'Archeologia in Grosseto to life every July. Over three free evenings, Italian and international documentaries explore the great civilizations of the past, from the Etruscans and Romans to the distant cultures of Asia and Africa. With open-air screenings, wine tastings, and workshops for children, it is an event that blends scientific outreach, the allure of ancient history, and the summer atmosphere in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma.

The archaeological film festival in Maremma

The Maremma Archeofilm Festival is a film event dedicated to archaeology, art, and the environment, held every summer in Grosseto, the capital of the Tuscan Maremma. Born as a spin-off of the wider Firenze Archeofilm circuit, the event brings the best Italian and international documentaries capable of recounting the great civilizations of the past through the power of the big screen to the heart of this Tuscan city.

Screenings are held outdoors in the evocative Giardino dell'Archeologia, the green space next to Piazza San Francesco, chosen for a reason: it is a place that directly evokes the deep bond between Grosseto and its extraordinary archaeological heritage, starting with the ancient Etruscan and Roman city of Roselle.

A journey through the civilizations of the past

Each evening features a selection of documentaries ranging from the classical archaeology of the Mediterranean to more distant cultures, from ancient art to the environment. The films, often award-winners at major festivals in the sector, allow the audience to discover recent excavations, spectacular restorations, ancient rituals, and unresolved mysteries of human history.

At the end of the festival, the audience awards the Maremma Archeofilm Prize, a popular recognition given by viewers to the most appreciated documentary of the edition. As per tradition, the evenings are accompanied by convivial moments with wine tastings offered by La Selva, making the experience even more enjoyable.

ArcheoKids: archaeology for the little ones

The festival does not forget families and children. With the ArcheoKids program, designed for children aged 6 to 12, the Archaeological and Art Museum of Maremma offers educational workshops and interactive games to introduce the little ones to the ancient world in a fun and engaging way, from Roman glassmaking to ancient food habits.

An event for the city and the territory

Organized by the Municipality of Grosseto together with the social promotion association M.ARTE, with the support of the Tuscany Region, Archeologia Viva – Giunti Editore, and the Archaeological and Art Museum of Maremma, the Maremma Archeofilm has established itself as one of the most anticipated summer cultural events in the province of Grosseto. An initiative that combines culture, territory, and scientific dissemination in an accessible, free format suitable for everyone, capable of enhancing the archaeological identity of the Maremma under the July stars.
